Looks like some more channels wanted to get on the wider 2G Europe beam. I wonder what will switch to the soon to be released 2E UK beam?

Yes seems UK spot beam. Why oh why have encrypted channels moved to UK beam? Nothing here in Southern Poland.

Encrypted channels have been on UK beams since the Astra 2D days. :D

BT know very well there are a lot of subs in use outside the UK, and with their ongoing purchases of hugely expensive sports rights they are obviously doing their damndest to further restrict access

Well, if that's the case why leave the SD channels on a wide beam? All they're doing is guaranteeing a flood of cancellations and the vast majority of those people then adding Sky Sports. Me included! :)

No problem receiving them here. Maybe you need a bigger aerial. :-rofl2

Yes, helpful...

My friend in DK is cancelling his BT Sports sub as he is not interested in SD and the biggest dish he can have is a Squish...

The BT sport channels swapped transponders with a lot of Asian channels (now on 11.597V). My guess is it wasn't that BT Sport wanted to be more restricted, it was the Asian channels that wanted to get on a wider European beam just as they where before on Eutelsat 28A and as BT Sport is only for the UK they didn't worry about switching to a spot beam.

Also, both the transponders are operated by Eutelsat.

I think this is just some of the extra tidying up after the satellite moves.

I wouldnt be surprised if they move eventually.
Inspiration channel recently joined the BT Sport SD channels on a 2G Europe transponder moving off a 2F UK spot soon after the Eutelsat 28A moves so I suspect that BT transponder is staying put for now.

Another point of view regarding BT Sport's HD move from a post on Digital Spy by popeye13:

My understanding is it was a temp move and one that was changed alot sooner than planned because some signal issues with those who don't have their dish set up correctly were losing pictures.
Its also why certain stuff was being live-simulcast on BTSportESPN while they were on the temp txp.

Makes sense as 2G Europe is a fair bit weaker in parts of the UK than the other beams.

Not to me. A transponder is either strong enough for purpose or it is not. If it is not it wouldn't be used even as a temporary measure.

IMO, most likely reason for the switch is so that at some time in the future error correction can be reduced to increase bandwidth.

2G Europe is weaker than 2E/2F Europe and a lot weaker than 2F/2E/2G UK spot over almost all of the UK though. I can see the difference just outside London and others have reported even worse reception further north. To be honest I'm quite surprised at how just much use 2G Europe is getting. Levels are more like the old 2A/2B than the new generation of satellites.

When 2G Europe was first turned on the levels were more like the latter days of Eute 28A although things do seem to have improved a bit in recent weeks. (11538V seems to be the lowest signal up here atm - that one is quite about 1dB down on the others)

11.612H SR 23000 FEC 2/3 DVB-S2 8PSK has been fired up on the Astra 2G Europe beam. Looks like some more HD channels coming soon.
