Are Astra 2A/2C going away also when this 2G is taken into use?

That would appear to be the plan by SES but we're not sure how soon after 2G comes along. 2A was supposed to go to 23.5E as backup but not sure if those plans have changed with all the delays. The SES website is still listing 2A and 2C as "to be relocated".

2G should be ready early June with transponder switchovers from Eutelsat 28A to 2G/2E/2F taking a month.

Where is astra 2G at the moment please? Can anyone check the beacon? Also, it is reported there is a batch of switchovers 1 June at 0105-0530. To which satellite as 2G will not be ready it would appear.

Thanks.

Noody except the broadcasters their uplinjk stations & SES know - and none of them are saying for certain. Will they go to 2E / 2F as an interim measure or will the change over just be delayed for a few days?

It's moving faster than that, the tracking sites take time to catch up.

Judging over at 28E that E28A isn't sounding in a good state this week 2G's arrival couldn't come soon enough!

Way earlier. The migration will start next week. That's what several sources are saying.

Which of the transponders will migrate on Astra 2G ?...from Eutel 28A? What spot will be targeted?
I think no one knows precisely than at the time when the satellite will become operational(?!)Yet some users on this topic was just speculating.

So moving about 0.95/degree per day as estimated. Rough calculations put her arrival at 28.2E to be around the 8th June.

With yesterday evening's TLE it would be around 16th of June.
Anyway, that doesn't have to delay the assumed transfer starting 1 June onward, from Eutelsat 28A to Astra 2E and 2F.
Only the band 11.2...11.29 will depend on 2G (probably!)

Strathclyde over on DS has pretty much confirmed the dates of the main 28A transponder moves (which are subject to change).

1st June: C3 & C4 will transfer to Astra 2F.
19th June: C1 will transfer to Astra 2G. (He doesn't know about C2 but I think it's reasonably safe to assume that will transfer too)
29th June: C5 & C6 will transfer to Astra 2E.

These all include the upper and lower virtual transponders in the 11.2-11.45GHz range.

Not sure about the transponders in the 11.45-11.7GHz range. Some of these will probably move elsewhere temporarily on 18th June and again on 25th June.

Interpolating the reports above (and N2YO's site today- 36.6°E) 2G would appear to be 'moving' at roughly 0.5°/day. Relatively slow compare with recent relocations, and slightly surprising considering the apparent state of EB. OK, 2E & F appear to have sufficient capacity, but SES do seem to have created more work for themselves. They move in mysterious ways.....

Indeed, the weakest 28A transponders C5 & C6 are the last to be transfered, on 29 June to 2E.
It would make sense to do these earlier.

So they do not depend on 2G, that still is calculated to arrive on 16 June, like I said here a few days ago.

I have visions of one team gliding Astra 2G into place while another fire up the transponders and start switching services over before the breaks have been fully applied. :D
