The old Thread is a bit long in the tooth and today's weather forecast for North Yorkshire includes some overnight snow, so it seems a good time to kick of the annual competition to see who is hardest done by!

Typically predictable unpredictable weather for the UK .............. beautiful Indian Summer for a large part of September and the first half of October, then this morning SWMBO wandered in with my cup of tea in bed (Oh, yes, a daily ritual that I must endure) and asked me if we had any De-Icer as her windscreen was frosted over

Ah Yorkshire often at the forefront of the weather patterns but not the first this particular time, I had a frozen windscreen last Thursday, I think it was or perhaps Wednesday, anyhow, I note our council still have not provided the grit bin that has been promised for many years now, apparently we deserve to be stuck at home for three weeks like we were last year

I'm not sure what the long term forecast is and even if I did it would have little to do with reality! Meteo France seem to have problems predicting the weather for the afternoon, never mind the next day. I think the weather is of little consequence here at the moment as people try to buy up as much petrol as possible. My local supermarket has slapped a 20 Euro limit on purchases which has managed to eke out their stocks up to now.

I've managed to ensure my domestic fuel supplies, having purchased 2 tonnes of anthracite and last week two trailerfuls of logs (mostly beech and a little oak) for 180 Euros. I was determined not to get caught out if there was a repeat of last winter!!

From the local news here, the climate near you is being kept artificially warm by the fuel purchases.

must remember to buy some grit/salt for the path and some better footwear so I don't lip on the ice again, thats if we get the same weather again.

also a new lnb might be in order for my 28e dish as its still iffy since the cold snap we had messed it up.

First real frost last night since early Spring. (see photos!) At least the Rayburn 'kept in' and there's warmth in the house.

Those pure Black Cows seem to have been badly affected with extensive frosting of the hide.

Is that why you appear to have then set them alight?

Are you, perchance, related to Thora Hird?

To the west apparently, London and the South East in general should be OK until Thursday.

Consider my hatches well and truly battened!! Woke up at 7:30am with a strong wind and light rain outside, but since then the rain has become a lot heavier and it's blowing a Southerly gale. I'll turn my dish round to 45°E so that it's edge on to the wind. Still have to feed outside animals and walk the dogs though. YUK!!!

Getting boiler lock-out here: Found before that if there is a strong gusty wind from a particular direction, it causes havoc with my balanced flue.

Yellow alert here today, and red for tomorrow! It's not the dishes I'm worried about, it's those pines down the garden.

Just got into work and its pouring with rain and theres a bitterly cold wind blowing. :(

The radio had reports of snow down at Carter Bar (where the A68 crosses the England / Scotland border). About 30 miles south of here....
