Suggest you try one of those inflatable ring cushions...........and avoid naked flames.

Yep, very miserable here too, and there's a threat of snow on higher ground round these parts too, could be a sign of things to come....

Very wet and windy and we woke up to a small problem of water tracking into my kitchen which I have suspected for over 20 years is travelling from my tight neighbours house along the cavity as he refuses to have back felting installed under his original roof which is now 63 years old, we had ours done 15 years ago but ocassionally we still get our kitchen filling up like today mops and buckets at the ready

Hmm. Should have realised there is no smoke without fire. In my case, no smoke. Or fire.

Had to do a full service on my Oil Boiler, which happens to be in a very small outside boiler house at the point most remote from the nearest door to my house.

Been running back and forth fetching tools (Why do you always take every size Allen Key but the one you need?) and stuff, in the wind and rain.

Filters a bit mucky (Had a fresh tank of oil a few days ago which has no doubt disturbed sediment in the sump), as were the flame spreaders etc.

But I think the real problem was the jet - took it off and soaked it in petrol and the petrol went rather dark yellow after a few minutes.

All back together and working .................... for now!

I gave up doing regular maintenance on oil boilers years ago as there was never anything amiss. Prefer to rely on breakdown maintenance instead these days - which, of course, has one major drawback. The faults only ever occur when you actually really need heating!

Heavy rain, 5°C with 40 mph gusts [South Mids]. Certainly not installation weather.

Nor sailing weather either! :( Renewed my insurance today just to be on the safe side, as the old girl is still on her mooring. :)

Quite calm here, with fairly well broken cloud after early drizzle. Still cold though. Guess you're getting what we had yesterday!

Bad early on, but still and bright right now. It won't last!

At least my boiler was ok this morning.

She's gone to work now.

Let's hope she doesn't read your posts, otherwise you'll be in hot water!! (unless the actual boiler goes off that is)

Spoke too soon: Lock out again today - but I've found out that the O Ring holding the Low Pressure and High Pressure parts of the Oil Pump Body has perished and was leaking oil out. I consulted my friend Watson and the answer appears to be that air is displacing the oil during the quiescent hours, so it won't flash up first go in the morning.

But the O Ring is very specific so I shall be trawling all the Heating and Plumbing shops this pm.

Hoping to fix it for mere pennies. But if I can't get a seal, a new pump is £60 and I'd need an "Engineer" to set the pressure. Ouch.

Ah, well, progress of a sort.

Scoured Northallerton for o's and could only get a couple of smaller ones I hoped might streeeeeeeeeeeeetch. They didn't.

Fortunately I acquired a pot of Plumbers Mate (suitable for Kerosene) and that seems to have done the trick.

Total repair cost around sick squid.

I feel this tale may have further twists yet ------- but to keep things strictly on topic, today's efforts have been done in temperatures rising no further than 6C, accompanied fleetingly this morning by a few flakes of snow.

The weather has been busy round here this morning, one tree down at the end of the road and our pond is now full of leaves.

I won't be using any ladders for the next 24 hours though.

So foul here today that the hill 400 yds away is completely shrouded in rain cloud.

Wind, rain and ferkin cold.

At least it's warm indoors .....................

Hatches well and truly battened here. Strong south westerly gale and driving heavy rain. Power was out for over an hour this morning too and came back on about 11am. It's a national holiday here as well, not nice for those participating in the Armistice Day ceremonies this morning. But then it's a small discomfort when you think of what was endured over 90 years ago.

Not only in North West!! Got really windy after dark, so much so it moved my dish and motor on the pole to the East by 6°. I admit the mount wasn't super, super tight, as I was nervous of warping the backplate (having done that on the Technomate). So, when the gales abate, I'll have to do some re aligning and tightening!!

just seen one on the news earlier, made sure the dish was on a west satellite to avoid any damage but now it looks to be coming from the south so moving it again.
was hoping the tree would get brought down that stops me from having it in the garden but no luck yet

sonnetpete, do the diseqc motors not take anything larger like 3inch diameter pole, that would stop it moving in the winds

Really bad here now - massive gusts.

I also wonder how my exposed dish is going to cope: I think I've jobbed it well enough after earlier uncovenanted movements in storm conditions, but we shall soon see.

Not too bad here at the moment - I think the worst of the weather is going to be to the south of us......
