Even though these high winds are driving:rolleyes: me mad I would still like to know who carefully carved that masterpiece of impressionist expression

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
The temp in our conservatory is good indicator of that outside - most mornings recently it's been showing about 11-12C at around 7.30am, but today it's still only around 9C at 8.30am and I've never seen it that low. No more snow overnight, but a very cold and strong wind - although nowhere as bad as others in more severely affected parts of the country.

As predicted, the snow started falling here around 2pm (just as we were going out shopping:rolleyes:) - and now it snowing "properly" and settling, and there's not a lot of wind and so it will probably carry on for some time.

Well I'm saving myself £10 a day, my heating has packed up and they can't send an engineer out.
He said the big Honeywell valves have packed up, but I tested them and they work fine!

Sat here with 10 jumpers on and an oil filled radiator.

Much sympathy - something like that has happened to me/us several times over the years

That's why we still have a "backup" gas fire in the lounge (which has been on low heat for the last 48hrs in addition to the c/h - first time this, and possibly last, Winter!), a gas hob in the kitchen and several fan heaters (in the attic) - all of which can provide some "local" warmth if needed. "Diversity" and lots of insulation do help.
Edited: just remembered that there's also the bottled-butane space heater in the garage - old, battered, ugly, but it still works very well!

PS: have you tried giving the "big Honeywell valves" (which I assume are those which control the h/w from the centralised heating supply ?) a few "careful taps" with a hammer as they can sometimes move but no water comes through because of a local blockage in the lockshield ends of the valves?

I ran into that problem at home several times - and then on the houseboat on the Thames in which a nephew & then g/f were living and the bedroom at the bow was freezing although the rest of the system seemed to be OK (and you seem to be at the end of the block, and thus in a somewhat similar situation). So, I borrowed his small hammer and tapped firmly away at the body of the valve for quite a few minutes until the entry valve loosened a bit, and then hot water came through - he always remembers that, and sometimes has asked me to "fix" a c/h problem in other places he has stayed, but I politely "declined"!

The motorised part of the valves work perfectly and so does the mechanical part of them. I think it was an excuse to say I can't be bothered I'll send an electrician out.

I think the filter is blocked or the flow rates need adjusting. Everything has bloody anti-tamper tags on it so I can't fix it.

Have to give credit where it's due, this Delonghi "Bambino" oil filled rad is working very well!, I normally use this in the bedroom with a very low setting to kick in if it gets subzero in there over night. It also has a built in fan heater if you want to warm somewhere quickly. I bought this for the Caravan/Tents but never got around to using it.

A hammer is a very handy tool to have around :)

Saw on FB that there are hundreds of callouts again for combi-boilers not working because the condensation flow outlet is frozen solid , hence blocked which the boilers sense so refuse to fire up

You'd think people learned from the 2009/10 Condensate Pipe Plague fiasco to insulate their pipes... :-doh

oh, sorry, I forgot we're in Britain, logic and common sense is not common any more........:-lmao

The condensate issue was highlighted on The One Show tonight - so that's probably where the FB poster got it from - and that also told people how to fix it (a kettle of hot water in most cases), or even avoid it happening (insulate the external parts of the condensate vent pipe!).

A couple of logs on the fire would make more sense than making,/burning cake.

But it's lovely and warm in the kitchen when you open the oven door!
