Maybe someone with a trade account with the major suppliers could look it up shouldn't be too expensive.

do you know anyone who can weld one for you as you could make it to your spec eg wider bottom plate and support pieces ?

Does nobody bother you with what you already have up.

ref made by 'Tyson '
Supplied through a company called Vanjack..
Just tried to open an account ..as I am 'related' trade (Tv Repairs) ..but will probably have to wait till after the bank holiday assuming they enable the account at all..

As to my gear so far ..
Luckilly ..I have good neighbours who know I'm a sat nut ...plus I directly overlook bungalows to the south ..which are distanced by a lump of land my dad owns ..
So far I've been lucky I guess ..but in theory only the top few inches of the Gibby mounted at 5 foot will be visible over the wall ..
Better than trying to mount it high up and totally visible.
I hate that my property ..which I own outright is subject to the whims of officialdom ..but I always try to construct with safety in mind..and like I say ..the neighbours to the left /right and due South of me are all friends or my Dad 3 doors down..
Yep I consider myself lucky..
So far that is..

Best, and cheapest is, dig a hole and fit some (more) quality steampipe within some concrete. As you say, who needs a patio. Get it positioned right though.

Big problem with that CH ..
I know for a fact the drains ..and water supply run under the very section of patio where the gibby could be mounted ..which is why I was going for a top suface mount in this case..

An interesting compromise, buddy: Reminds me of the old adage about a couple with different holiday aspirations - one wanted to go to Scotland and the other to Cornwall. Never shy of taking each others views into account they went right down the middle and spent two weeks in Sutton Coldfield.

You will still have to drill down and fit anchor bolts though, a 5' post plus moving dish on an 18" base would require a minimum 8" depth bolts to ensure the whole caboodle doesn't move about.

I know what you mean CH ..

I had envisaged bolting the base to the patio ..then building a brick box around it ..and infilling with a level concrete mix ..

A bit like the picture..

Something like this I thought would be sturdy enough without disturbing the ground under the paving slabs of the patio..

what d'ya think ?

Nah, wouldn't trust it

The NPRM and slabs on top for a 3" post stop at around 3 feet in height. You need to dig - carefully around your pipes - and lay some real foundations.

There's this one in the French supplier that I use. He's quoting about €27 plus carriage. There's another sturdier one for about €54

..just perusing the interweb ..and found some straight lengths of stainless steel tube
76mm polished stainless steel tube 1700mm long
wall thickness 1.5mm /304 grade ..so good rust resist.

£25 delivered..
Sounds like a good price ? but not sure about wall thickness..
and of course ..would have to be sunk into the ground ..in this case with much caution.
comments welcomed..

Sounds good, a couple of holes drilled at one end and some studding introduced will stop it from twisting. The money save could be spent on a metal detector to find those pipes before the pick-axe.

..miserable foul day here as usual ..
thick cloud ..constant drizzle which is more often full showers..
But still I had to brave the elements to see how far East the Gibby could see ..perched on top of a table ..ie 5 foot height
Surprisingly I can clear the wall at 36 East ..
Just locked the SSB at 12245H (5db) ..even on a day such as this..
the intended location looks viable ..at least up to 40 East...plus definately to hispasat at 30 West..and beyond.

VS, once you get the pole, measure everything and take the pole to the local metal works to make a tripod out of it. THEN you can do as you explained in post #26. Will be much cheaper than getting a pre-built tripod mount and will make it more stable.

Hi CJ
..I'm Seriously considering planting the pole in concrete as I did with the PF mount..
The fact that the pole is a foot longer than the mount I was considering..means I have a 12 inches extra which would benefit in terms of stability if it were under the patio.
Once I have the pole I'll lift a flagstone ..and dig down a foot carefully to see if this is possible without disturbing anything important..
If not viable ..the ground would be reinstated ..and your suggestion given some consideration.
cheers

...Yesterday evening it was dry ..so the paving slab was lifted and I dug down to make a hole about 15 inches cube...and managed to avoid the water supply ..and not deep enough to expose a drain....covered over for the night ..

During the night ..surprise surprise ...it rained ...and left about 3 inches of water in the covered hole (ground water seepage ..and it cannot escape as the bottom of the hole is clay ...

Anyway thats for later..

This morning the courier arrived with the pole ..about 9 AM ...

By 11 the anti twist were fitted..

Steel pole drilled ..and 2 lengths of threaded steel bar fitted..

Before this is sunk in concrete ..I'll plug both ends with expanding foam ..which I know to be very effective.

Colin Pillinger could do with your help finding his lost Beagle - I suspect your solution to a successful Mars landing would have involved a great deal of scaffolding and several billion tons of concrete.

I won't take that as a _dig_ Gordon ...on account you are probably right..
As you know ..I always overkill on construction ..thus ..a successful launch would have been unlikely ..weighing farrrrr too much
