The BBC's Blue Planet II programme is to become its first TV series to be made available in 4K resolution and high dynamic range (HDR) colour via its iPlayer catch-up service.

All seven episodes of the marine-themed show are being made available to UK-based owners of select TVs.

Fab series spoilt only by the eco-preaching.

Plastic in oceans clearly needs tackling, but much of the propaganda on other issues was unproven and self-serving. I'm surprised someone like Attenborough is obliged to stoop to the sort of stuff you'd expect Packham to come out with.

Propaganda / man causes mass extinction through sloth was done to death a few years ago. I had a lot of respect for Carwardine, but then he decided on a reboot of Last Chance to See alongside somebody whose transport of choice is a TX4, and utterly determined to wipe out a colony of apes with man-flu.

On the contrary I find it refreshing that the series hasn't shied away from telling it like it is. The original series only mentioned global warming as an afterthought for fear of upsetting people. This time they're not making that mistake.

Despite what the Listings promised, I wasn't unduly disheartened by tonight's offering. The first fifty minutes did include much irrefutable factual content about things that are changing and their causes, but sadly the final ten minutes degenerated into the by now predictable poorly constructed propaganda and skewed logic that diminishes science.

Overall, however, the "inform and educate" elements largely prevailed, much to the credit of most of those involved.
