Yes,intermittents and be soul destroying. You think it's fixed then after a while it comes back!I think you mentioned checking thermistors on the pipes but there should also be temperature cut outs attached to the boiller body. These should be sort circuit. On the combi I had,one was intermittently o.c .I can't see these on the flow chart though. They are normally about 1cm in diameter with a tiny cut-out button in the middle attached to a screw mount. But maybe this is what you meant by thermistor.Lets hope you've fixed it.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Claim poverty and get a free boiler from one of the many free boiler schemes... :D

Only one temperature cutout, which is the overheat. Any fault with this and the boiler comes up with a red light requiring a reset. This has not happened (as of late anyway).

The boiler has functioned as it should for the past 36 hours, so for now the emergency is over. Yesterday morning was the clincher with a particularly cold start.
There is one circuit board on eBay - brand new - so I'll put an offer in.

Thanks for the help to date.

If you have a pressure issue and it's not in any of the pipe work check the pressure release valve; this could have a slight weep. If everything checks out ok it's most probably the bag inside the pressure vessel. How old are your thermostatic valves on your radiators? If they are the wax type these do not last long and start sticking. If they have all packed in at the same time there will be no demand on the boiler.

It is a Combi 82 (Wickes/|Halstead) and yes there has been an issue with a loss of pressure before now. I did pump up the expansion chamber a few weeks ago, but will look into trying it again. There has been no thermal cutout for a while.

The boiler did start up normally this morning, so I may have got rid of whatever breaks there were on the board, but I'm still convinced it needs replacing.

There is no hot water tank in the system, nor room thermostat.

I find that most loss of pressure cases in the expansion tank to be a bad valve stem needle valve, replacing it with a new one should/could help, and it wouldn't hurt.

I also find that removing the intermittent gremlins in any device by scaring them away with my 44 magnum works wonders, worked great on a funky hard drive, until I accidentally pulled the trigger, new hard drive is working fine, patched the bullet hole in the PC case with bondo and duct tape.

Spoke too soon.

Wife ran a bath and a DHW pressure pipe appears to have burst a seal at the diverter end. Water everywhere, including the PCB.

Still drying everything down but this may be the end of the boiler

Oh dear. Had a new one myself last year.

Supplied and fitted by a local two-man firm, the total cost was less than half of that quoted by the big boys (Grittish Bass etc.)

Nah, not going down that route - they will only supply condenser units these days, which will last about a third of the time this one has been in place before costing a couple of k's to repair.

As for the big boys , I can't find the two finger avatar on the site, so here is a link

Well it's better that the boiler conked out from getting wet than from having a gas leak caused inside it and then blowing up your house and 5 other houses around you... :)

I haven't gone near the gas section, yet.

Anyhow the board has dried sufficiently and she has started up again, though I've now got a piece of wood inside wedging two of the DHW sensor pipes up against the diverter since the seals/clamping wires aren't holding on their own.
I may look inside the filter housing later - once I've bought a six point 24mm socket - just in case the fault is down to furring up

Finally got round to inspecting the filter within the water regulator and it's as clean as a whistle. Ordered two new seals and retaining clips with should be here tomorrow

Let's hope that does the trick for you.

My new Condensing Boiler is about to show its mettle, having been on light duties since installation in March.

Winter is coming ............

Wish you luck buddy ....
I hear nothing but bad things about condensing boilers ..
you save a few quid on efficiency ....but lose out to repairs ..which appear to be more frequent.
My mate had one fitted 3 years ago ...it failed within 6 months ..and has done so about 6 times since..
..whereas my old Ariston has failed a a similar number of times ....but in 13 years..

There's no legally valid option for a new installation these days.

I had one at my last house and it never failed and also my mother-in-law's ran for years before we sold the house after she passed away.

But we shall see!

Untrue.

Do I have to have a
condensing boiler?
No. You should have a condensing boiler
fitted if it is reasonable to do so, but the
law recognises that non-condensing
boilers are acceptable if it would be
too difficult to install a condensing
boiler in your home.

http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/br/BR_PDF_PTL_GASHEATADVICE.pdf

Plus, if you can prove a non-condensing boiler in your possession has been unused since purchase (pre 2005), it is OK to fit it.

Fair comment - especially as I thought my own would be difficult due to condensate drainage issues, but the restrictions on where soakaways could be installed have been relaxed recently.
