Extra help needed ...
I have been observing this Vertically pol Extended C-band sig at 27.5°West at 4652 V for about an hour now - ramping up and down / dropping completely and then reappearing. The signals to the right of the analyser scan are RHC from 27.5° West as well. I thought it might have been a signal from one of the two new birds that are parked up around 26° West for testing but if i move the dish off the 27.5°W slot the ext C-band sig drops also.

.. Just observed another quick burst at another frequency - 4772 V but did seem to peak up at about a degree difference at around 26.5° W.
Worth keeping an eye on.
Edit:- 17.30 UK time, 4652 V up again and a bit stronger and is peaking up at around 26.5°W area.

@John : Nothing found from my place at 27.5°W, hwatever the polarizatino set, maybe a local interference ?
I have something similar from my QTH @ 30°W and 70°W
70°W this afternoon for example:

By the way, while I was playing with extended, I have checked 65°W
4506 V 5000 2/3
SBT and TV GUANANDI
4516 V 4285 3/4 TV Brasil
and 4555 V 4166 2/3 CPJUR mux4555V4166.JPG4515V4285.JPGtvbrasil.JPGtvq.JPGsbt4507.JPG

And 40.5°W, nothing new excepted this new SID in the empty mux 4517 R: NEO TV (start soon ?)

.. That thought had also crossed my mind but when i deliberately tracked the elevation up and down and AZ E to W the ext C-band signal kept perfectly in sync with the other C-band signals further up the band.
I do see aviation activity from about 4.230 GHz to 4.370GHz on the analyser sometimes but it's never been there whilst iv'e seen the signals at 4.652 and 4.772. So at this stage i need to keep an eye on it and see what happens over the next week or so.
Thanks for the input, appreciated.

Re: 65° West, yeah saw the other week that CPJUR had gone encrypted from when i reported it a few months ago. I was looking at a SMW dual band C-band lnb which looked very nice - - - - until i saw the price, lol.

Extender panels ?

Hmmm, i wonder if s-band Grahams 2.4 PF tin dish could be a donar for experimental purposes - lets say we just use the outer 100mm off each panel and graft it on to the edge of the 2.2

According to my wobbly old schoolboy maths is would be very marginally just under a 19% increase in size of surface area when moving upwards from a 2.2m antenna to a 2.4m antenna?

0.76dB in theory from ratio of sizes
You might get that much by covering the ground below it with foil so the overspill only sees sky

The additional 0.76db might just get closer to a lock on the signal? If I read the Promax screen capture correctly, John was getting 6.6db on the signal. Getting it up to 7.36db might be closer to a lock?

I noticed the Promax indicated it was a DVB-S2 signal, if it was QPSK then 6.6db should probably have got a lock. If it is 8PSK then 6.6db would be needed for FEC of 2/3 and 7.9db for FEC of 3/4

If "Feedsat" pops in and the signal is active I am sure all will be revealed.

How will you cut the outer 100mm from the tin dish G.? :)

You can try cutting it. However, it's not uncommon to add mesh dish extensions like this OK1KIR Gallery: Antennas

Glass half full answer. 19% if the panels are of the same parabola and efficiency of the original reflector (Precision ?) .

Glass half empty answer, missing a few drops of water unless you discounted 4% for parabolic deviation and loss of efficiency.

You did say it was a tin dish, so your panel beating background could make all the difference.

It might be possible to use the 2.2 as a backplate for the larger reflector....
