Hi friends ..
I have a new white freesat card ...one of the £20 specials ..
Obviously there isn't that much on the card that you can't get on a non sly set top box ..
The only thing I really use it for is to watch CH4 HD occasionally ...by removing it from the paired sly box ...and popping it into a cam in my IP9000.
This has worked fine for me up till last night ..
I dont keep the sly box powered up ...I just plug it in about once a month and leave the card in it overnight..
This time I might have left it a bit too long ...as when I returned it to its paired box ...and powered up .. I got this message ''Wrong card for this set top box' .
..which looks like the card has become 'un paired' .
I didn't even know this could happen ?
With the old blue card the 'entitlements' would sometimes vanish ..but you could always get them back by leaving the card in the box overnight.
The pairing certainly didn't vanish..
My question is simple ..
If I leave the card in the digibox for a day or so ...will it 're-pair' (pardon the pun) itself ?
Damned annoying if I have to leave a box on permanently ..just for this £20 card ...
certainly not very green ...if you can't turn 'em off at the mains for a while without problems.

Yes sounds like the card has possibly gone to sleep, check the correct bbc/itv regions to confirm. Leaving it in the digibox should wake the card up unless it's been totally deactivated? Suck it and see.

Whereas the old blue cards used to show the "Call Sly to Upgrade" message when they "went to sleep" the new white cards show the "This is the wrong card for this set top box" message when they "go to sleep".

I have noticed that the new cards tend to go to sleep a lot quicker than the old blue cards - blue cards use to be OK for about 3 months, the new cards look to be about a month.....maybe this is one of the trick to stop the cards working in nonsly boxes, and require to be popped into a working sly box to stay awake....

It is genuine after all ..
I'll leave it in its paired box for a while and see what happens.

I got a formerly subbed card from a m8 to use for freesat and when i put in in my box it says "this card is not authorised call the broadcaster" does this mean it has to be activated again?

Usually "this card is not authorised" means the card was never activated. Have you seen it working in the other box,and if you put it back in the other box will it work ?
If a card is not used for about four weeks ,it will deactvate and needs to be in the digibox for about 4 hours to switch back on,but that is the wrong mesage.

Rang sky with number blocked and asked for it to be activated but after checking they say there is a sub on that card already!! I assured them that it was not working and they looked for the original owners address which I did not have but said I bought it s/h with a digibox from a satellite dealer. They said the only answer was to buy a new one for freesat so I politely said I will think about it.

So is there any other way to activate/check it as it appears to be dead..

P.S. My mate just bought a card on fleabay and it works fine in his box and mine so the box is not the problem but the card which I would like to be able to revive!!

Well, once a card is activated it should work in any box.
When you say a sub is on that card already ,do they mean a pay subscription ? Why not contact your mate and borrow the box that it belonged to and see if it works in that box ?

Oh yeah, just read it. Interesting theory. I have a customer who has 4 digiboxes(tv crazy) and 2 ftv cards from same dealer on internet. One of the cards was in(and paired to) a Pace ds430, which she video records most of her programmes. When the Pace developed the switching off problem,I lent her an older pace 2500 so she can still record,(mainly from the fta channels). I cant remember the message but she could not get five, fiver and usa.( will try and confirm if its "wrong card").But she says when she puts the card in a panasonic tdsb30 in her spare room, all channels work. What do you think ?

Sounds like it needs a firmware upgrade.
