Can't find 28.2E, but the rest is OK!

I think I'm going mental. I spent 3 hours atop the ladder last night.

Got me self a new telly, freesat and all. Simple job, re-align old 5W 60cm dish for analogue french stuff, not used as often as it should be to 28.2E, sounds easy? It probably is...

Aside it I've got another 60cm dual head, pointing at 13E and a second LNB on the side does 19E so I know which way things are facing. Check new universal LNB by scan of current 5W dish - check finds TPs etc.

Turn dish, find 13E, 19E and tune some things there, so only a few degrees and should be 28.2E. But can I find it, can I tosh! I suspect its the receiver, a cheap fortecstar lifetime classic, despite having database entry for Astra 2ABD not much matches up with what's on now. I manually added 10 TPs all 'clear' Freesat stuff, BBC, CH4, ITV etc. Whilst moving the dish it never locks on to any. (symbol rate set correct too)

I've checked stuff tuned on 19E is correct, i.e TP freq matches kingofsat.

I've borrowing an old sky box tomorrow, so should be able to get to the bottom of it - there's no trees, or buildings. Just seems weird, is my finger pointing at the receiver correct?

What I haven't tried is just plugging it in the TV and trying to tune it that way, but the TV's going back, that's a whole other story!

Elevation? Should be somewhat lower than for 5W and three or four deg. lower than 13/19E.

Yea, you need to place the 28° LNB a little higher than 19°E or 13°E. Look at the attachment below of Visosat's pre-formed LNB holder, from left to right, it's 13°E, 19°E and 28°E. The elevations are not the same for all. Between 13°E and 19°E the difference is small, maybe 1°, so you can get away with having them all ont he same elevation if your signal is strong, but 28° is usually too far out of line and needs to be raised.

Yes, should have clarified ............. Lower elevation means LNB higher owing to "reflection" from dish face (ie all is downside up!!)

S_y box isn't good for finding the satellite because it takes too long to lock on signal and download EPG

Obviously having found all I needed in past didn't need to play around that much. From 5W thru 19E all is dandy with a simple twist of the dish.

I have to disagree.

For years I used Digiboxes to align dishes. When used with a portable TV and, especially if you have the small Pace Minibox, it's quite transportable. If you put the Digibox into the Sevices, signal test menu and then turn the volume on the TV up, the first sign you're getting there will be the background music bursting through. from there you can peak up the signal quality bar for best result.

Don't forget that if you you use the "springing" technique to lightly push the LNB laft/right and up/down to check if you can get a better signal that, because the signal is reflected off the dish, you then need to move the dish the opposite direction.
