This has worked quite well the last couple of years on other forums so Im bringing it here this year :) Plenty of notice is being given so folk can get set up in plenty of time.

The idea is that by using the channels on the European satellites you see how many midnights we can find. (12 last year - can we do better this year?)

First one of the day is 2pm uk time when Sky News goes over to Sydney for the Australian celebrations. We then work westwards through places like China, Vietnam, Thailand an Kazakhstan until we reach midnight in the UK (where I normally watch the celebrations in Portugal!)

Everyone is welcome to join in, although it will work best for the European members as we have access to a more diverse set of channels. Ideally you need access to Hotbird & Astra 1 - although a couple of the channels are carried on Sky UK.

I'll be posting pics on the thread and anyone else who has the capability is asked to post pics of what they find as well.

Why do it Im often asked? Well no reason really.

Its a bit of fun, its completely pointless, its a chance to see how other cultures celebrate their new year, and its a chance to have a few drinks as well (if any excuse was needed!)

See you NYE if you are interested. :-hny

Oh by the way dont worry if you dont have any cards or cams in your receiver - we only use the free to air channels - it keeps things simple doing it that way!

You should be ok 2cv - you have your tiddly dish set up dont you? If so get it swung round onto 13E and away you go. All but one or two channels are on there.

I hope the weather is a bit better than last year - we lost several folk from the fun due to the storms - as their dishes were blown round and onto no signal! I barely survived - my 16E dish was sagging badly in the morning, and the 13E dish had lost half its channels as it moved on it mount...... Every few minutes we lost pictures as the dishes shook as a massive gust lashed the house

It fell off the window, I haven't put it back up yet as I currently get better content off Freeview than Freesatfromsky... :D

I've not actually found 13e yet in all the time I've been in the hobby, so that would be a fun challenge.. :D

You cant miss it - its on about 18 times. Transmission times for DF1 will appear later, as its part of the fun during the evening!

Also worth looking out for is Dinner fur Brodt on Kinder Kanal which is exctremely funny :)

I may not be able to do it I'm afraid, as I'll be over in France and think i'm going to be dragged out for a French binge, although I am going to make some changes to their dishes and enable one of them for Hotbird and Astra 1, so who knows. :)
