So, here are the promised countdown and fireworks from Latvia (LTV1 coverage). LNT also were showing fireworks and concert from Statue of Freedom square, but unfortunately I don't have the recording of it. The only strange thing was, that our public broadcaster (which is LTV) didn't showed the anthem, as they did it all the past years... but, times change...

Nevertheless, I wish you all a wonderful year! Thanks for great evening! Cheers!

Have a good one!
Moral of the night - after heavy snow and lots of ice, do the sat checking the day before chasing midnight and dont go out at 6pm tinkering with the dishes - it soon gets to 10pm and then you lose the remote in the darkness of a back garden!

its been a fun one - thank you to everyone

Mmph, I fail! What's the signal like for it on your system? Is it very weak or do I have some fiddling to do for next year?

I believe it is an HD channel, so an SD receiver wouldn't get it

Watched NY celebrations in CNN, really liked Anderson and Kathy with "Justin Bieber Live", or "Lady Gaga in 20 minutes", and then Cooper: "No, there won't be Lady Gaga"... :D

Good morning everyone, and many thanks to everybody who took part in posting in this thread yesterday. I would certainly have missed a lot of things if I had not had so much information to hand.

Here is my collection of screen grabs, if anybody would like to have a look:

On a different note, I'm watching Ford Open Prison burn live on Sky News! As the crow flies, that's probably about five miles away from here; although I can't see plumes of black smoke going up in the air from my window here!

Have a very happy 2011. Let's do it all again next year!
Ed.

This is how things went for people here and on DS will keep this in my Google Docs as reference to next year and edit with new frequencies then.

I was looking around you tube for a version one of my favoutite few minutes of the evening - the Moscow Kremlin tour set to the national anthem before they go live to the fireworks. I did find a rather nice rock version of the anthem set to pictures though :D

Did you know under Russian law all state tv channels must broadcast the anthem twice a day - at start up and closedown if not 24 hour, or at midnight & 6am local time if 24 hour. :D

If tyou like the Russian anthem theres some facinating stuff about the videos used in the broadcasts here

*****
Theres a real bit of history on here. Download the 1990 film - it plays with vlc if nothing else - (bottom one in the new year section) and you get the old Radio Moscow interval signal that any short wave listener of the 1980's will immediately recognise, the speech from Mikhail Gorbachev, the chimes then a hauntingly familiar welcome into 1990 with the Soviet flag flying over Red Square not the Russian flag......

Signal here fine, the 1500+ locked in to the transponder (other channels from the satellite were present in the database), but nothing could be stored. Enough memory left over as well

No S2 system here, which led me to believe it was a HD link.
