So whats the "Find the Fireworks" / Chasing Midnight set up here in the somewhat soggy Scottish Borders?? #stormfrank
9 dishes (8 currently operational as the 5E one seems to be dead or widely misaligned atm)
an insane number of lnbs hung off the dishes
4 satellite receivers under the tv Sky UK / Dreambox 7020 / Vu+Duo / TM5402
2 tvs
1 tv card in the computer
more remote controls than I care to think about
12/13 timezones
a few beers
a few whiskeys
and best of all -
lots of laughs here on the forum
Im really pleased this is still so popular - I basically invented this game about 15 years ago over on the DS forum when I realised with a bit of preparation you could chase the fireworks round the world on 13E. It really took off here on the sats forum as the pictures can be added & I hope it will run for many years yet.
Its not possible to monitor ever single channel going - especially once we get to about UTC +4 and numerous channels become available - I love seeing what everyone else has found way from the channels Im watching.
Why do we do this?? My answer to that is well why not? We see some fabulous fireworks and every year is different.
2004- the big Boxing Day earthquake meant most of Asia was very solemn with very little celebrations
2007ish - severe gales in the UK led to many of the celebrations being cancelled for safety reasons
~2012 Vietnam dropped the usual midnight closedown routine and started partying instead
Channels come & go - this year we have lost Uzbekistan but gained Turkmenistan & hopefully Cambodia so hopefully we will see something exciting from them
