Just another 18 hours of extended hours is all we ask - we want to see if there are any fireworks in Phenom Penh :D

So whats the "Find the Fireworks" / Chasing Midnight set up here in the somewhat soggy Scottish Borders?? #stormfrank

9 dishes (8 currently operational as the 5E one seems to be dead or widely misaligned atm)
an insane number of lnbs hung off the dishes
4 satellite receivers under the tv Sky UK / Dreambox 7020 / Vu+Duo / TM5402
2 tvs
1 tv card in the computer
more remote controls than I care to think about
12/13 timezones
a few beers
a few whiskeys

and best of all - lots of laughs here on the forum

Im really pleased this is still so popular - I basically invented this game about 15 years ago over on the DS forum when I realised with a bit of preparation you could chase the fireworks round the world on 13E. It really took off here on the sats forum as the pictures can be added & I hope it will run for many years yet.

Its not possible to monitor ever single channel going - especially once we get to about UTC +4 and numerous channels become available - I love seeing what everyone else has found way from the channels Im watching.

Why do we do this?? My answer to that is well why not? We see some fabulous fireworks and every year is different.

2004- the big Boxing Day earthquake meant most of Asia was very solemn with very little celebrations
2007ish - severe gales in the UK led to many of the celebrations being cancelled for safety reasons
~2012 Vietnam dropped the usual midnight closedown routine and started partying instead :D

Channels come & go - this year we have lost Uzbekistan but gained Turkmenistan & hopefully Cambodia so hopefully we will see something exciting from them

My internet speed is still diabolical, if anything it is worse because it seems the gits downstream have now got fibre and are hammering it with tv offal. Stuffing it up with drivel like corrie and emmerdale and eastenders on repeat. So no hope of streaming anything here.

Plus the damn trees seem to be taller than last year but still I should get enough for a giraffe as the weather may be ok for most of the day. Car temp says 2C at the moment, it's not going to be an warm evening for anyone out tomorrow but wtf, there is no way I am moving from the radiator!

Euronews has some footage of preparations in Berlin and Paris.

Squarials ready at Brandenburg Gate.

Apparently Paris is having a light show instead of fireworks which will make for dull viewing on television. So maybe we can strike than one off and look at something more interesting, Paris will be in some roundup anyway, probably on Euronews.

The same procedure as every year, folks!

BTW, I'd throw in Al Jazeera Mubasher into the mix as a possible source of many midnights - their format is broadcasting raw live feeds, and I think I just heard a promo about "Special reception of the new year" if my ears caught it correctly.

Yes,ever since the Dubai NYE fireworks have gone OTT,Al Jazeera Mubasher has increased its coverage of various NYE celebrations, often with split/ multi screen output

Apart from the last couple of days Ive never seen TVK on so late. I was hopeful one year but they went off mid afternoon

If You´ll lose TVK too early, I can donate comfort screengrab :) 78.5E C-band (3666H) working fine here.

Looks like blokes at AJM thought Sydney is having fireworks already. (Language tip - مباشر - Mubasher means "live") Not sure the footage is actually live.

It might be live indeed! Note the dusk on some horizon shots, and it is midsummer there.
