I assume we will be running the usual end of year Follow the Fireworks fun on the forum?
Usual routine, tune into Auckland midnight at 1100 UK time then work our way westwards across the time zones seeing what weird & wonderful celebrations we can find, no doubt a smattering of wrinkly rockers and an awful lot of fireworks!

For those of you that havent seen the format before the usual firework highlights are

Auckland
Sydney
Taipei
Pyongyang(!) - erratic but have had a few excellent displays in recent years
Dubai
Berlin or one of the German cities
London

Channels are all almost all watched via FTA channels on 13E during the day, the Germans on 19E & a few news channels on 28E. There are always a few contributors chipping in with some of the other birds - eg the Ukrainians & Baltics on 5E and whatever other oddities we can find on the other birds across the European arc.
There is also the opportunity to watch the classic Dinner For One on 19E.
The Reuters news feed on 22W is also a useful one to have access to as they tend to have the full displays from main cities on.

Same procedure as every year?? :-rofl2

Notes for 2024:
Same as last years comments - goodness knows what will be happening this year what with the ongoing war in Ukraine, the Israel / Gaza conflict and the situation blowing up in Syria.

Dinner For One was virtually unknown in the UK until I discovered it on on the German channels on my folks old Sky analogue system about 30 years ago. Chatting about it on the forums in the intervening years has led to a bit of a cult following now :) Its got well enough known had a couple of showings on UK tv in recent years :-respekt

As usual I'll close this for now & reopen it a few days before NYE

BTW - 2024 seems to be the 20th anniversary of Chasing Midnight on this forum - the first one I can find is 2004, with regular Chasing from 2007 onwards. The 2004 thread has a whole 5 messages in it!! :-lmao

Xmas Eve - Ive had 22W on most of the afternoon - the situation in Israel means no coverage from Bethlehem at all today (so far). Most unusual - instead they have had hours of rolling coverage of Norad Tracks Santa!! It must be a VERY quiet around the world today

:-lmao

I think booking the stable was a last minute option, give it a couple of hours.

And seeing as there is now a yellow severe weather warning for heavy rain over the whole of mainland Scotland for Hogmanay I would expect some of the Scottish NYE events to get cancelled as the 31st approaches......

Its been a few years since we have had such strong winds forecast on NYE even up here. And the whole period looks absolutely foul across most of the UK for several days.

I vividly remember trying to realign the 13E dish about 7pm one NYE after the storm force winds had shifted it round its pole even in its sheltered location in the Galashiels garden.

I think this one will be named in the near future - next on the list is Eowyn - what with the potential it has to cause chaos with year end travel & events.

Not looking favourable at all where you are

There has been no wind at all down south, just drizzle and lingering fog. No sun for almost a week

Im already starting to have problems with the 80cm dish on 22W - every so often a massive wind gust knocks the dish enough out of alignment the signal drops out :(

Maybe the best position could be 7 East?

Providing your dish is big enough for feeds I would say yes. Places like Myanmar, Guam and Hawaii will be streams only

Think you might be right, it will be a toss between 7E and 22W (for Reuters).

If you have access to a VPN and can switch it to Switzerland, you can also access Yalloo TV which is a free ad-supported legal streaming service. As well as carrying the UK FTA channels, it offers most of the good stuff from 19E - German, French, Italian as well as Swiss, Turkish and Spanish. No need to register either which is a plus.

Same procedure as every year!

I have a feeling we may have to strike South Korea from the list this year due to recent events.

Well, I believe that all feeds broadcasted by Reuters at 22W will be distributed at 7 East too.
The only (major) difference is that Reuters is totally FTA.
I never heard about this new Swiss service. I knew Zattoo and Teleboy but they both do need registration and are not free. Thanks.
