I am collecting a mini dish with a suitable LNB for freesat on Monday, I think he said it has 4 outputs. Got myself a GT Media V8 Finder 2 to assist me with installation. Going to try and get 19.2e and view on my LG TV for the time being.

Great choice i find 19.2 more entertaining thesedays! Ok i can send you the channel lists/database file for that meter. As nothing will be preset. Let me know if you need it. So its just point and select a channel then watch for video whilst aligning.

The channel list would be great, yes please :) Is it easy to add it?

Thank you, appreciate it.

My dish can be reached on a stepladder which makes things easier. The only thing I am unsure about is the elevation for 19.2, do you have any tips or guides for this? Just looked on DishPointer and it says this:
Satellite Data
Name: 19.2E ASTRA 1KR | ASTRA 1L | ASTRA 1M | ASTRA 1N
Distance: 38654km
Dish Setup Data
Elevation: 29.5°
Azimuth (true): 152.3°
Azimuth (magn.): 152.0°
LNB Skew [?]: -10.1°

Do the mini dishes have elevation markings? Sorry if that is a daft question! :)

Buy a cheap satellite meter, which you can pick up for less than £10, or from stores, like B&Q, for around £13.
satellite_finder.jpg

They are extemely easy to use, and are a huge help, in finding a satellite. All you do is make a small cable, connect the meter, between your LNB, and receiver, at the dish end. If the meter is connected correctly it will light up. You the increase the sensitivity, of the meter, by turning the knob, to the left, until it reaches about 5, midway, then slighly adjust your dish, to get the meter to 10, decrease the sensitivity, by turning the knob, to the right, to get it to read about 5, then adjust the dish, again, until it reads 10, and keep doing this until you het the maximum signal possible. Once completed go to your satellite receiver, scan in some channels, and check which satellite, you're on, by checking on sites like lyngsat, kingofsat, etc..

The best way, to use dishpointer, for finding a particular satellite, is by using the map. You type in your postcode, or location, then select the satellite, you wish to align your dish to, zoom in on the map. moving the green icon, to your house, then to your dish location, and look at the line, for where you should point your dish.

I still find those needle meters tricky ! They just lock onto any satellite unless you can watch the receiver at the same time ☺️ I find the pocket tone meters better as the beep sound is different for Astra 1 and Astra2.

Thanks for the files. I have unzipped archive and there are 2 files: GTMedia_V8FINDER2_V4.2.9.465, GTMedia_V8FINDER2_DB_SystemData, Is GTMedia_V8FINDER2_V4.2.9.465 a firmware update? I haven't even switched the thing on yet as it only arrived yesterday, just wanted to double check before I do anything!

You can maybe try just GTMedia_V8FINDER2_DB_SystemData.bin

I thought i would upload both just incase. Both files was created of the export of my meter config.

You dont have to flash the full firmware just press left again then it will give you the option to just flash the UserDB.

Thanks. I have updated the firmware to the latest from freesat.cn and flashed your UserDB file. Nice little unit, looking forward to having a play when I get my dish :)

Cool do the imported channels appear now?
Yes the meter has the same OSD menu system as the GTMedia 7sx ☺️

Can you explain how I use the device to align the dish please? I have gone to the Channel menu and Astra 1KR/1L/1M/ is displayed, from there I see channels 0001 - 0381. In Installion I see E19 20 and when I select it I get LNB Freq settings and other stuff.

It sounds like you are on the satellite list menu. Use this to store new satellites. Such as 5w for example.

It's always better to use a pre-stored channel for dish alignment- so there's no confusion. You need to select a channel, such as MTV / ZDF etc.. on19.2.

Exit out of all menus.
Press OK> Press Blue> Astra 1kr> Select MTV, RTL/ZDF or whichever, then wait for the video. It might be worth pressing the right key to turn up the volume so you can hear the audio. Then press OK to get the SNR meter percentage bar up to fine tune.

Point the sat dish in the same way as all the other sky dishes, but lift a little higher the elevation, then move left and right. It's really easy!!!!

Super all ready to connect up! Left and right and just move the dish up up a little ☺️ 2-3 * Are you sure the LNB isnt a SkyQ one?
