I can get it in HD fta via cable but I prefer Free HD Satellite with no ads as mentioned here

As the Satellite version is encrypted & only the SD version is fta long live Free HD Satellite tv for the minority

No good for my AZBox P+ either as the transmission was in 4:2:2 MPEG-4 the AZBox cannot resolve 4:2:2 in MPEG-4 & is making it's way to the bin very soon

Guess some of us are " old school ", and as for " will ever be " who knows the future, if windows 10 is anything to go by!

Is there a technical reason for this? A linux receiver should theoretically be as versatile as they come (obviously the software needs to be written, though )

I gave up on satellite receivers years ago. I can use the PC card to watch TV, blind scan, move the dish and of course it copes with 4:2:2 (in conjunction with software/codecs) and do 16APSK/32APSK modulation, which more and more feeds are adopting.

Sure, some receivers can be hooked up to a PC to view 4:2:2, but very few can cope with 16APSK/32APSK.
