Current TV gets Sky Italia carriage
As widely expected, Current TV is to launch on Sky Italia.
The deal will add 4.2m homes to Current TV’s overall distribution making Current TV available in 56m homes worldwide. “By being the world’s peer-to-peer news and information source, Current is an important voice for young adults. We are delighted to bring this innovative channel to Italy, and we look forward to a successful partnership with Current,” said Tom Mockridge, CEO, Sky Italia.
Current was launched in 2005 with the goal of giving young adults a voice in the media by inviting them to collaborate with the network to create television. To achieve its aim of opening up television, the network was the first to introduce so-called viewer-created content onto the TV screen.
No fixed date has been given but the launch will be “this Spring”.
