It may well be that the half-height brackets in my picture(above) fit in your pc cases. Not sure if PCI Express x1 (For Wireless card) can be used for DVB card?

here is a picture of the dell optiplex 3040 its not the small factor format it is the mid tower, wonder can i stick in both the low profile tbs card and a low profile graphics card or will the integrated graphics card be good enough for 422 feeds ?.

just wondering is the little black connection beside the blue pci 3 a pci-e slot meaning that i could install my tbs card on the small black pci-e if indeed thats what it is and then use the blue pci 3 slot to put a graphics card in.

'ere, cop for the motherboard layout for that Optiplex 3040

The board layout shows two PCIe slots, one is x1, t'other one is x16.
Are they both populated with cards?

There are both onboard HDMI and DisplayPort outputs which suggests it can use onboard graphics.
If there is a discreet GPU in the x16 slot you might be able to remove it and use Intel CPU graphics via the onboard HDMI or DisplayPort outputs, that could possibly free up a PCIe slot?

A TBS card only needs an x1 slot, it can go into an x1, x4, x8 or x16 slot and work OK
moonbase you are correct that is indeed the motherboard layout of my 3040 pc and both the x1 and x16 are free as in there are no cards installed.so could i use the x1 pci for the tbs card and use the x16 pci if i want to upgrade and install a better low profile graphics card, then again depending on the graphics card i buy i could need to upgrade on the psu.

but i only want it for 422 feeds thats the whole reason for the tbs card and i got the 3040 free from a mate.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Question: does the 3040 PSU have enough power to also drive both additional cards as sat cards often have quite high consumption because they drive the LNB(s) and many graphics cards also have quite high power consumption (that's why PC's with advanced graphics cards need big PSU's)?

NB: Dell and other major name brand PCs mostly have bespoke motherboards & PSU's, and so it can be very difficult to find and fit larger PSU's - and that's particularly true for SFF and "medium-size" case models. Tower case versions tend to be "better" and more modable in that respect.

Stick it in butchy, that is a PCIe x1 slot, it will be OK for a TBS card. I always run my TBS cards from a black x1 slot.
Black slot for TBS card, blue slot for graphics card, job done.

I am not sure about using Intel HD graphics from the CPU for 4:2:2 as I have never tried it. Give it a go and if it is glitchy stick in a cheapo older graphics card.

Graphics card prices have fallen off a cliff lately, plenty of bargains around.
The crypto miners are leaving the scene in droves due to the increase in electricity prices, apart from the sponge boys who live at home sucking their parents juice

It depends on the graphics card in the sytem as to the PSU needed.
I run NVIDIA 3080Ti's in a few rigs and they all do OK with a 750W PSU, probably get away with a 650W PSU.

The lower down you go in the graphics card scale the less power draw they have. A quick check on the manufacturers specs per card will give the recommended PSU rating.

As for TBS cards, unless they are going to power a diseqc motor or a v-box they draw very little power.
If the TBS card in the PC is going to be used as a positioner then they have a molex connector on them that sucks extra juice from the PSU.
The power draw of a TBS card when used as a positioner will be available somewhere on the web.

If butchy aint gonna use his TBS card as a positioner then any auld graphics card with 1 or 2 GB of RAM on it will do the job with 4:2:2.

Butchy, if you have a mid tower then you may find that you need full height brackets on the TBS card and a graphics card to be able to secure them in the case.
Try sticking one in and see if it lines up with the screw securing hole on the case expansion slots.

no all im doing is just running the 2nd coax from my twin lnb on my dish straight to the tbs 6981 and all thats being used is just to view 422 feeds i move the dish seperately with a vbox on my sat system.

You aint gonna be sucking much juice with that setup.

I would install the TBS card, flash the system up and scan in a 4:2:2 feed.
Once you got a 4:2:2 feed in the PC you can use a few software apps to play it and see how glitchy or smooth it is with the Intel graphics.

If it is smooth then no need for a separate graphics card. If it is glitchy then look around for any auld graphics card that does not require additional power from the PSU via cables.
Get one that can run from the 75W provided by the PCIe slot.

Butchy, my farts got more power than that PSU.
Lets hope the Intel graphics are OK so you can avoid adding a separate card.

'ere, cop for this card, it is old but OK if you do need separate graphics, ASUS HD6670.
The power draw is low at 66W, takes its power from the PCIe slot and your PSU is just about rated OK for it.
I used to run a few of these cards and they are OK for smooth 4:2:2.

thanks moonbase,i will let you know how it goes but i will not be able to test till the weekend as thats when i will be home, hopefully friday evening.
and if i do need a different graphics card you might point me to one that would do a smooth job,but will try out what i have first and see how it fairs out, will report back friday or the weekend.many thanks for your knowledge and advice truly appreciated...............................................................

if the intel card is ok,will that psu be fine for 422 feeds or would there be pressure on it?.

A 4:2:2 feed would not put pressure on the PSU directly, it will impact the CPU but the system is designed for the PSU to cope with the CPU at full throttle.
It should be OK. Stick the TBS in, flash it up and throb on, you soon find out the answers to all this theoretical guff.

Without knowing, that would have been about what I would have guessed - that's why I raised the subject!
