hi - vipersan --
i get around 6 counts per degree when the actuator is well out --
between 40 and 49 east ---

strong transponder for me is 3692 L 8570 Tyumen time --

if your line of sight is clear you should get that one ok --

regards nelson.b.

THanks everyone for your input ..always helpfull ..

OK ..
Have logged in the missing sats on the V box
East side ..
They are as follows ...
20 East 695 ....a difference of 102 to 30 East
30 East 593 ....a difference of 78 to 40 East
40 East 515

so between 20 and 30 East roughly 10 clicks per degee reducing to 8 clicks per degree between 30 East and 40 East ..

I'd assumed 10 not 8 ...
the V box of course wraps round at zero counting down going East ..

So it does look like I should get Yamal if I have line of sight ..
assuming approximately 5 > 6 clicks per degree between 40 East and 50 East ..
hope this makes sense..
and thanks for the transponder ref Nelson..

VS, if you post your known v-box points I can work it out pretty accurately. Also distance between the actuator rod ends at due south, and the distance between each rod end and the polar axis.

Well friends...
Time to give up on Yamal ...at least for now..
There is a 'hint' of a signal at 460 on the Vbox ..but nothing substantial enough to lock on to.
Exactly where I would have expected it ..
Went outside to look at the direction the dish is pointing ..
Again ..exactly as dishpointer says it should be ..
Right through the body of a currently leafless tree ..and the corner of a house ..
So looks like I'm gonna be out of luck on this one .
I'm convinced I can get the dish right over as far as 57 East ...but of course ..there's nothing there to test this with.
Thanks for all your help.

...perhaps also worth mentioning that having looked at the footprint map on lyngsat ...
It appears the Yamal has a very rapidly diminishing erp this side of the pennines ..
The signal drops off very rapidly on the western UK

Thanks AS ...
I'll give it a go ...but I suspect this may be a bit low on the horizon for me anyway ...as the small fence will definately mask part of the bottom of the dish face.
..probably giving me more like -37dbw

Best of luck bud :)

If you do find it then its worth looking for some of the L/R polarity stuff as well just in case

yes -- come back to Yamal again sometime --
my view of this sat is also partialy blocked -- a wall is taking 15 in or so from the bottom of my dish -- and although the t.p. i gave you is not as strong as the transponders on 40 east -- it is comparable in strength and quality to to the bbc - arabic transponder at 1 west --

The dish is currently tracking the arc fairly accurately ..
certainly better than before it fell ..
However the elevation control 'jack' ..is currently undergoing a strip down an refurb ready to be refitted before any serious tweaking ..
The actuator arm itself has been removed from the motor and currently enjoying a few days soaking in a bath of oil..

Another Improvement wich is related to the big dish is the addition of another cable run from the output to the C band LNB ...
The connection was split ..and the cable run back to the V-box positioner input ..
This allows the diseqc 1.2 commands issued by any of the 3 satellite receivers using the shared LNB (whichever one is ..switched on ....in use and currently driving the lnb) ...to remotely drive the dish ..
Its working flawlessly ..and of course doesn't require the signal to be looped through the Vbox

If the signal is strong enough you can get the "wrong" polarity on a lnb - Ive had the 5W analogues on an old BSB dish with a circular polarity lnb on it. The signal loss is pretty horrible but its worth a look

Hi friends ..
Sunny this morning so have busy outside creating a sealed hopefully weatherproof environment for the big dish outside switching gubbins...

I found a use for a discarded block of foam packing ....and a special fried rice take-out tray..
:D
mmmmmm...Tasty....

Cest la vie ..

Soaking the 12 inch actuator has freed it off ...
but sadly the ball race (containing bearings) have shattererd internally ...plus there is some rust damage to the screw ./..
Looks like it will have to be replaced ...
Any suggestions as to where to purchase a replacement at reasonable cost welcomed ..

That's a shame - three steps forward and one back, it seems.

Can't help you with a supplier, I'm afraid.
