Hi friends
..I've had to put down my thinking in diagramatic form

The diagram is somewhat exaggerated ...
The Variation or error in tracking from 1 West ...
top of the arc ..
Which was set correctly for my location 53.5
..appears to be about 1 degree ..over 30 degrees of arc ..

So I'm summising that the polar offset will require modifying by about 1 degree ? to correct this.
Please feel free to correct my thinking if you think I'm 'barking'.....err up the wrong tree

;)

VS

..Hmm just rechecking the numbers now I'm home from work ..
And that the error seems to correct itself the further down the arc I get ..
ie ..40 deg ++
..it makes my diagram somewhat redundant and a little odd ..
doh!

..perhaps the odd discrepency at the lower end of the arc is due to errors in the polar mounts construction ..If so I'll live with it ...

Perfect at the top of the arc ..
1 degree out around 30 East and 30 West ..
almost perfect again around 40 West ..and 40 East ....(EXP Am1 declination taken into account)

Nothings perfect ...
;)

Hi VS well from your diagram it seems too little declination but not from your description. As you say nothing is perfect

..And that what I thought too Topper ..
and it all made sense until I realised that too little declination no longer seemed to apply at 40West and beyond ..
I'm thinking about hooking up a temporary ku universal ...
Which would require more accuracy than C band ..
Just to test the arc again ..
But thats for another day..

Hi friends ..
The Sun is beaming down its health giving rays today ;)...so decided to play truant from work for a day ..
My shop is staying shut ..and I'm having fun in the sun instead..

I've done a quick lash up which consists of an offset ku universal lnb ..with its feed hacksawed off..
grafted onto a tube and scalar feed assembly.
The whole thing is held in place at the focus using large diameter hollowed out expanded foam pipe lagging ...
Perfik ...as Pa would say ..
Now to see if I can at least plot my full extent of the arc to the East ...using KU

...Not looking good for the extreme East..
Having hooked up the ku lnb this morning I spent the day outside single stepping East from Astra @28.2
I have no problems all the way to Turksat at 42 deg East ..
From then on the dish goes deaf..
Either the accuracy is compromised ...or as I suspected I have obstacles blocking the line of sight ..
I'm trying to push as far as 45E ...but at this point I'm definately pointing at the 'leafless tree' ...
Maybe thats the problem ...even in its leafless state.
I do know I can climb a ladder with the dish aimed at Tuksat 42E ...and even my body in the way doesn't diminish the signal to the point of blanking a received image from Bloomberg...
So I don't think its a 'gain' issue

Can anyone tell me the strongest UK transponder on Intelsat12 45 E
I supect 42 deg is my Eastern limit ...but I'll persevere with 45E for a while If I know what I'm looking for ..
Still ...its been a luverrly day ...out in the sun.
;)

VS,

They all seem pretty strong on 45°E but I think it's 11632V 3/4 S2 8SPK that shades it. Coming in here at 99% both Q&S.

Thanks Pete ..
I'll give it another go then ..
If the tree is blocking some of the signal ..then knowing the strongest might just allow a little bit more to get to the dish..

Well friends ..
No luck with 42E or 53E ...
looks like the tree is the offending obstacle ..
Decided to push my luck ..and go even further East ..so as to avoid the tree ..
Bingo ..
Left of the tree is NSS12 57 East..

The signal comes and goes very rapidly ..

Its even more impressive 'cos the short fence is masking about 20% of the dish at this elevation.
