In the Motor Vehicle Insurance/Repair Industry, that would be described as "betterment"!

ie The post-incident repairs might essentially have the effect of improving parts that were already slightly damaged or degraded. I don't whether they still do it, but when I were a lad Insurance Companies used to charge back to the Policyholder a proportion of the cost of a Claim in such circumstances.

Apropos of not much, but it just sprang to mind.

Anyway, WELL DONE :-dancer1

***RainStopped Play ***

Hi friends ...
Just a quick update ..
The new pole has been primed and painted ..
Anti Twist bar added ...and lowered into the pit.
Temporary support struts to tie it to the walls and pole set vertical .
Sadly the weather has stopped the concrete fill for the moment ..as it keeps raining and the pit fills up a few inches with water..
No escape for it as the bottom few inches of the pole sit in clay.
But it will be filled as soon as possible ..
A sheet of polystyrene is currently providing some cover.

Well you'll get there soon enough.

Do I detect renewed enthusiasm and vigour after the dishappointment of the original dishsaster?

(I think I'm turning into Sean Connery)

Loving the phrase 'Dishaster' Sean ..
I think we should keep using it until it finds its way into the Satellite Terminology Phrase Book
;)
My hands are currently suffering ...refusing to do what is asked of them..

..but the enthusiasm is still there in abundance ..
The Spirit is willing ...but the Body is weak..

..well the sun put in a rare appearance this morning...
So took advantage and put in the first layer of concrete..

On the photo you can see the anti twist bar ..which will eventually be under the mix ...and the remains of the origional post ..
It too is set in concrete so no point in trying to remove it..
The new post base will bond to the old one adding to the base size an stability.
I will of course pour concrete into the remains of the old post stump ..when I finally fill the hole up.

Careful VS, this thread is now entering Garyg territory in terms of illustrations and length.

Carry on, old fruit.

It seems to be good therapy for you and is certainly of interest to many of us.

I'd second that VS. I've been 'lurking' without posting as I felt that anything I could add was either repetitive or a bit superfluous. Don't worry about going into GarryG territory, it's keeping us all entertained........just as long as there aren't the same distractions (vandalised cars) or eventual outcome (sale of aquired dishes)!!

Just make sure you don't overdo it and take things easy.

Hi friends ..
The last layer of concrete has gone in ...and whilst I'm waiting for it to set ..which will take several days..
Work has begun on stripping and refurbishing the polar mount ..
So ...I'm on the scrounge again ..if anyone can help me ..?
If not I'll have to try and make the missing brackets from scratch ..
Basically there should have been 6 x U bolt support brackets to hold the dish to the polar mount ..
As with the missing right angle rim brackets ..there are only 3 ..
The items were missing when the dish was purchsed 2nd hand ..all those years ago.

I've included a modified photo of the brackets (steel) ...to show dimensions.
Nelson informs me that car exhaust U bolts will do the job..
as ..all dish 'furnishings' are imperial (pre metric) ..and so difficult to obtain..
The brackets are another matter..

Work on the dish has finished for today ..as I have my 6 week hospital appt/checkup this afternoon ..which I know will take hours ..

Don't get too hung up on the slight differences between imperial and metric. Get the closest fit to pole diameter metric clamp you can and be prepared to "spring" it slightly if need be. The clamps will deform slightly as they tighten up - that's how they work - so it isn't worth worrying about.

You are very kind Montafon ...
I would indeed like to replace the missing items on my dish ..
Which include the 3 brackets mentioned plus 6 right angle braces and 3 rim plates ...
But it would leave you with a dish thats short of these items ..
Only if you are never going to re-use your dish would I consider asking for those parts ..
I don't want to have you scrap a dish for these parts unless it is never going to be used again..

Hi again Montafon ..
I've scanned a page from the dish manual to show the items missing ..
They are ringed in red..
The 3 rim plates and the 6 right angle brackets

..plus the previously photographed 3 dish support brackets of course ..
