Hi CH ..
They certainly look to be about the right size and shape according to the diagram you posted ..
Having never taken apart a drum disc brake assembly ...I have no idea ...if they have a 7mm hole centre ..or indeed ...how long they are compressed/uncompressed ..
Have you had one in your hand m8..?
If so can you elaborate..
rgds
..and thanks again

as for rusting ...a nice 'gobb' of copper grease should hold the oxides at bay ..
assuming they are the right size ...can they be bought seperately from the brake drum assy ...over the counter at a car accessory shop ?

Pop in to Thick~Fit or somewhere like that ............. they'll have boxes and boxes of loose bits and pieces like that.

Hope you are keeping your chin up, old friend.

Thanks for that Gordon ..
..As it happens my neice's husband works on car bodys ...so I figured I'd ring him naturally assuming he might have encountered tthe brake shoe retainer spring at his workplace ..
He said he hadn't as he doesn't get involved in the actual mechanics...but he works with guys that do..
The upshot is that he's gonna ask around at work tomorrow ..
fingers crossed ..as best I can atm ..
Suffering loss of function atm but still trying to keep my hands busy..
It helps..
Cheers buddy

hi -- vipersan
if your relative cant come up with any tommorow
i have some old ford brake shoe retaining springs here --
the size is 4 loops - outside diameter 14 . 5 mm
un compressed length 13 . 5 mm
fully compressed 8 mm
inside diameter 10 mm
they are very rusty but use-able -- if treat with rust killer and greased

regards nelson.b

My grateful thanks to Nelson for providing 3 suitable springs to add the final adjustment touches to the head assembly ..
They where fitted earlier today (2 of them viewable from this angle....but its too cold to try for optimisation atm ..
Here's a quick snap of how they will improve the plate positioning angle relative to the dish face ..
how they work should be self evident ..
