Having spent the last couple of months playing with my new 7025 I can now advise people NOT to buy it.

The 7025 has woeful support from the community. Essential CAMs are not available for the 7020 and help simply runs into a dead end because very few people have a working knowledge of the 7025.

I've also found that the 7025 gets VERY hot - to the extent that I am worried to leave it on standby. Instead I have to turn off completely, then wait 120 seconds for it to boot up. (Not sure if these points apply to other Dreamboxes).

If you are still interested in the Dreambox the 7020 may be a better option (at least you will have access to about 10x more files and assistance), but unless you are doing anything extraordinary (like cardsharing) then I can see little point in owning one.

Very disillusioned.

I bought a DM500s recently and i have the same feeling, it was the worst piece of quality crap i ever owned, sold it right away.

There should be laws against selling stuff like this.

In fact, I'd suggest that the Dreambox gets so hot that it poses a FIRE HAZZARD. How is it possible to build such a box.

In case you think I'm just griping, let me tell you how I got to this position. I recently purchased a subscription to TPS (official), and wanted to use this in the DB7025. Guess what? The required Sotftam is not yet supported on the 7025. Okay, no worries - I'll use my Viaccess CAM and put that in the Common Interface slot. Except that is not supported either. Quality. Talk about pulling hair out after a dozen hours spent flashing and configuring. What a complete waste of time.

Therefore I purchased a £150 Technomate 1500CI today. Slotted in the CAM + Card and it works first time. Simple. Effective. Cheap.

The Dreambox is definitely an "enthusiats" toy. And arsonists. The problem is, the supported software for the 7025 with is useless, and the quality of the box, which overheats.

In case you're wondering, I'm a software developer by trade, so I know my way around a Linux box.

Very Interesting indeed. But I still would not part with my 7000s except for a 8000.

I have had my 7000s for about three years, and and have enjoyed the user community support over the years. A real shame to hear that. I also have a 500s and am impressed with its abilities. As far as heat dont have a problem with either. As John Graydon says I still will not part with my 7000s. Oh I am going to pick up a Humax HDCI-2000 in the morning but thats because of the HD footy....heheheh... Wife will be pissed! :D

Thumbs up to the 5620 for me...I suppose they created a dud with the 7025, but that can happen. All in all I think most 56xx and 7000 users are very happy with them.

I have used (in order):
5620S
7020S (old version)
Relook400S
500S
Now 7020 (new version) - was contemplating the 7025 but decided not to go for it, although I am a cable enthusiast too :)
I am happy with the 7020S.

I don't know how long it will be for the 7025S to catch up and whether the new 8000S will use the same cam as the 7025S (they use the same processor - if I remember well).

Cheers.

Well ive used dm500 dm7000 and dm7020,

dm500 - great box, if you use the right image, lacking a few pvr features which can be dealt with by mounting a cifs share or using ngrab also has small remote.

dm7000 - great box, works like a charm, records to hdd fine not a bad word best supported box too.

dm7020 - not impressed, it was a lan bug model, i played around for ages getting it to record to the hdd without problems, like it would stall on cardshares and all sorts, i even compiled my own image from cvs

If i had a choice of all 3 i would choose the dm7000 althugh im using a dm500 as my main box atm

hi,

Im an owner of the 7025 and 7020. Started the 7025 off as a toy really, but has slowly took over the 7020 and is my main box now. The 7020 is gathering dust. It has a few obvious problems due to lack of software etc, but that is slowly coming now. For what i use it for its totally spot on and i am quiet happy to kiss my 7020 good bye.

As far as heat is concerned, yea it gets warm, but no warmer than my 7020.

Plus the twin tuners working great.

Looking at IHAD there is evocamd, MGCamd, newCS (which can be used with a $ky card so I've read) and scam emus for the 7025.

Mmm. I have a 7025, too. It certainly doesn't get any hotter than my Topfield TF5800PVR DTT box.

I wasn't expecting there to be the same level of software or sofcam support in a newly developed product, and I was right, but more becomes available every day.

Once you get your head round the fact that usr/keys and usr/scce are "virtuial links" to var/keys and var/scce and let the updaters get on with it like in any other 7XXX series box then it doesn't prove as daunting as at first sight.

I do get a few freeze-ups when I am recording one channel and watching another but I think that is either down to my choice of HDD (Samsung V120CE 250 - HA250JC) or the fact that DMM don't have so much experience yet with twin tuner PVR software - not an easy thing to get right.

that would be telling
when i first set my 7025 up i was a bit worried about the heat or overheating problem but it is not a over heating problem if so it would cut out and stop working so it is just the way it is.
the files and cams software and so on was a problem as the was none but now the is a lot of support for it and must say it is a great bit of kit well worth the money i have a 120mm fan connected to the HD power to keep it cool it can't harm it so why not.
have a gbox working ok ish could be better but thats just me i like things A+ all the time very stable a few freezes when on uk NDS italy one ok don't know why.
all in all very very happy with the box when people say don't buy because of the over heating it is wrong i mean how many have you read about going up in flames.dream multi media are a very good company and i would not think they would sell a faulty product.roll on september when the 8000 is out.same old shit again " don't buy overheating problems it will blow up no support" all the same again.
