Hi John
Yes I do use the karcher on it once a year it could do with a respray as looking at its been there since Oct 1991 its going to be one hell of a respay job let alone cleaning all the corrosion off .I will clean and respay the jack that should be straight forward . Wow you have 2 jacks fitted yes I have seen that before on the guy who installed mine he had a 6m all geared up for C band . But I know that there must be some where a sat receiver that can receive MPEG-4 that has Jack + Skew control but its a case of hunting them down . Where did you buy your ASC1 from as I cant find any in the UK ?

Hmmmm, testing the brain cells here a bit because it was quite a few years ago but i seem to think it was somebody in the UK that was selling Titainium products, Cband lnbf's, conical feed scalars etc but iv'e not seen them for quite a while from a UK source. Forum member Scopus uses one and has the rear add-on terminal board fitted and quite likes it.

Hi S band well never had any problems with know were the dish was pointed at . I tell a lie about 10 years ago the magnets had to be changed out on the jack because it was not working but its been fine ever since . My main problem at the moment is finding dealers in the UK who deal with big dish installes as most people I knew have gone . But while we have this lock in I will do some maintenance starting with changing out the good old Echostar ad-3000ip Viaaccess since it would seem that every thing now is MPEG-4 and as you know the 3000IP is only good for MPEG-2 . But it would seem that since there is no requirement in the UK all I can find are receivers with no jack and skew control . I am sure someone in europe must stock them . Looks like your into 10/24GHz EME I have never had a play with EME the best I have done has been 23 cms ATV . Wow just seen whats on your link ( Absolute Optical Shaft Encoder ) I dont think I would need that for Ku/C band as most times the jack is spot on or I have use the Sat Look for any fine tuning .

I know how you feel John I cant even remember how to reture the receiver I had to find the manual a far cry from 25 years ago down loading the d2mac codes into my dragon cam for watching TV1000 .

...Ok just returned from the step ladder in the back garden and I can comfirm that the dish is not 4m its 148 inches from rim to rim which makes it 3.75m the tape is not bar tight but its well over 3m as you can see in the pictures

Thank you for taking the time to measure the dish, it looks to be a Precision Antennas 3.7m dish. I have just checked the original Precision Antennas catalogue and the only size listed larger than 3.7m was a 4.5m. The next size lower in the Precision range was 3.0m

Your 3.7m dish has the same focal length as the Precision 2.8m and 3.0m dishes at 1207mm. The difference between them apart from size was the location of the 3 x press stamped feed support holes on the dish surface, they get closer to the edge as size increases. All three dish sizes shared the same length of feed support arms.

In which case I would have preferred that you had addressed your quoted reply to the original poster of the topic rather than use a quote from one of my replies. If you check my first post in this topic I indicated my thoughts that it was a 3.7m dish and later expressed a view that it might be a 2.8m dish based on the serial number. I stand corrected on the 2.8m dish size but was correct on the 3.7m dish size and it being spun from a welded blank.

To use Corona virus as a flippant jocular rmark causing reduction in dish size is in my personal opinion in bad taste considering the impact Covid-19 has had on familes across the UK. However, everyone to their own and I respect your right to make such a joke even though I do not agree with the merit of it.

I have to agree MB about covid 19 jokes, not really the time nor place. I know a couple of people who have had it and have been very ill..

Yes Moonbase that does make sense 3.7 it was well over my other 3m tape , I think I might get the karcher out oh yes its a Precision dish as you can still make out the markings on the dish . Time to pick your brains ! whats the best way to deal with the corrosion on this dish and is there any thing I can put on the front of the dish to slow or stop the corrosion . So its not a 4m its a 3.7 m it must have shrunk in the wash . Thinking more about the corrosion I am sure I used some on my aluminium motor bike wheels .

Anyway looks like I will have to go to europe to find a suitable receiver , Oh yes John you were telling me about your ASC1 am to take it you bought it from the states if so I wonder how much duty you paid on it to bring it into the UK as last I heard its about 25% and then even on second hand stuff .

... from failing memory i don't think it came from the states - i'm pretty sure it was from a Titanium seller in the UK that had in stock a couple of the controllers, Titanium Cband lnbf's & conical scalars - it must be three or so years ago, perhaps more, when i obtained it.

@subman

Personally when I have had to clean a Precision dish I have used something like stainless steel cream kitchen cleaner on a rubber like backed sponge. It gets some of the marks off. If it stil looked like it needed further cleaning I moved up to a general kitchen cream cleaner, again with the rubber type backed sponge.

If there are still marks after that I have used an orbital sander fitted with an interface pad between the hard sander pad and the sanding disk. The interface pad allows the sanding disk to curve with the parabolic profile of the dish and helps prevent going through to bare metal. I used this technique not so long ago to remove a light band of spray paint from a Precison 2.0m dish. I used a 400 grit disk at first then a 240 grit disk and avoided cutting through the original coat down to bare metal.

After cleaning you could try a wash with some type of anti mould/anti fungal preparation to keep it at bay?

Brian , developer of Titanium announced last year he does not produced that ASC1 anymore
Some users bought those positioner in Germany at Ponny's shop satshop24.de
I dont think he has it on stock

Thanks Moonbase , Sounds like a good going over with the karcher then . Yes I have seen people use a scouring pads before but its ok on the parts that are near the ground but might get a bit hairy up the top of a 6 foot step ladder . How about paint or clear Lacquer

Ok John you bought your ASC1 from a UK Titanium dealer but I have been going through all the dealers I can find and so far not found any thing most just tell me to buy a little digital receiver and use my receiver for Jack and Skew but over the years I have seen thousands of Ku/C systems and every thing is in the receiver but I fully understand there may not be a demand for it in the UK . If it comes from Europe there should be no duty on it . Seen ASC1s over in the states its the same with Corotors and it would seem the same goes for Ku-Band Quad Multiband LNB or even a C band LNB .

Anyway I think its time for good Karcher then get my Sat Look meter apart and check what the battery is in side as we still have 11 weeks of lock down to go .

Thanks Trust not having much luck here are we , Well I will keep searching on the internet for large dish dealers .

Agreed, up ladders with a sander stretching into the dish is a bit risky. I had the luxury of having the dish unmounted lying flat on the ground which made things a lot easier.

I have pasted a link below to the 2.0m Precision dish refurb that I did where I used the scouring pads and the sander.

Thanks for the link MB yes I think your right best stay well away from the big step ladder thinking about it if I turn the dish to 60 East that should bring the dish just off the ground so should be able to reach a fair amount of the surface and I have also got a small step ladder I can use . Well I also have a dremel with a wirebrush attachment I could use .

Trust ,I have emailed satshop24.de but looking at the web page I dont think they stock any big dish parts .
