Hey,

I have been having a look at the Edision OS mio+ 4K UHD Grey 1x DVB-S2X + 1x DVB-S2/T2/C. One of its listed attributes is Hyper-sensitive tyner for receiving even the weak-signal channels. Does anybody have any experience with this in comparison to the tuner on the Octagon SF8008 range (or any highly appreciated tuners/receivers)?

And, as it uses a Broadcom processor rather than a Hisilicon one, I assume it doesn't suffer from the stuttering/video lag with the Octagon.

Thanks

I would say that the 8008 has a more sensitive tuner than the MIO4k (I don't have the MIO plus)
The MIO 4k has a big advantage, it finds the PLS of the multistreams alone, something that the 8008 can't do.
I found feeds in MIS that were not indicated anywhere

I tested both the MIO and the SR8008 on some narrow bandwidth frequencies that were stacked very close together on 95.0W. The frequencies were ranging between 1.24MHz to 1.39MHz wide and were 2MHz apart if I remember correctly. The SF8008 scanned and locked most of them. The MIO completely failed. These were not multistream, just regular stuff.

Thanks for that, out of the two, I assume the Octagon is better for blind scanning too (for non multi stream channels)?

i know that bug.

if you scan for transponders instead of channels - it SHOULD work...
same is true on 26e
the MIO doesnt blind scann anything IN if you have it set to scan for channels (on blind scan)
if you set to scan for transponders it does bring them in, then select them all for scanning

strange but true.

I just did a blindscan on 33 East, the frequency is well found with its PLS

I don't agree with this statement; my MIO4K also finds very close frequencies ( 2 Mhz) and with very small SR.
Here is a blindscan of the 62° ESt
Maybe you have to use the right image.

i dont think the image makes a difference, as they all use the same Blindscan plugin implementation.....i use VIX

thanks @stephan94 -= i was doing a manual scan - i will try a blind scan instead....

It was set to scan for transponders, I always do that with E2 receivers to get visibility of the parameters it has locked in an easy to read list.
After the transponder scan has completed, I select which of the locked frequencies I wish to scan for channels and avoid scanning unwanted frequencies.

The SR of the frequencies I tested on 95.0 West were all with SR of 1036, the MIO failed unless the frequency was an isolated one and had no close neighbours.
The scans were in C-Band rather than Ku-Band, I am not sure if that is relevant?

To the O/P, if you got spare wad to buy a MIO you got nowt to lose by buying one. You can then satisy yourself as to the merit of its tuner compared to the SF8008.

I can't see the 95° West, so I can't try.

The 8008 has an advantage compared to the MIO4K;
it can read below sr 1000.
The MIO4k has never managed to read below SR 950
This is an advantage for some radio stations and
amateur radio stations on 26° East

I briefly had the SF8008 last year, but at that point my motor had gone belly up. Thus, I was only able to test it on 28.2e. I managed to get a good deal on the Gigablue UE 4K, so I sold the SF8008 to a friend.

I do prefer the snappiness of the Gigablue, but from what I have been reading, I'm not sure if the plug and play tuner for the Gigablue has a blindscan (the internal FBC ones does not). Plus, a few times, (I have only noticed this on hotbird so far) it has shown 0% Signal Quality for the whole transponder. If I rescan that same transponder using the same existing credentials, it's back to normal levels. Plus, it did struggle to hold a picture on 30W from a fixed Zone 2 on Saturday night - but that might be down to the weather.

I'm thinking its better for me to get a new box rather than spend £50 on the plug and play tuner for the Gigablue.

The only downside I remember from my brief fling with the Octagon was the delay/lag, but as it looks like that has the better tuner than Edision, I can live with that.

My mistake, I thought that you had the SF8008 and were considering the purchase of a MIO.
They are both good receivers but my personal preference is for the SF8008. However, I accept other users may have a preference for the MIO.

Buy both !

I have both. Octagon to my 1.2m . MIO to my 1.8m. so I should be able to answer any questions. I just blind scanned 33e using VIX didn't pick up multi stream channels . Will try another image .. what do u use @stephan94
