28A has reached the end of its expected lifetime of 12 yrs ( launched in 2001), I dont see this sat. to be too active, anywhere it relocates.

Theres plenty of life left in 28A/33C yet for feeds & services where high power isnt so important. The old girl may be a bit down on power when trying to keep multiple high power tp's on air when she was broadcasting to the UK but barring onboard failure I reckon we will see her operational for another 4-5 years

Well according to this report for 2013 - 2014 by Eutelsat issued to share holders Eutelsat 28A or Eutelsat 33C as it is called now has an expected life in geostationary orbit until the 3rd Qtr 2018

Very very interesting.
Infact, by 2018 it can run in stable orbit. And after that, it may run in inclined orbit as well.

A classic case was Bonum1 @56e, which ran for yrs in an inclined orbit (2.3 degree inclined)

33C might be a replacement for 33B, which is scheduled to be ending in Q2 2016.

One Boeing spinner craft was retired a few years back that had almost 30 years under its solar panels :D

It was so heavily inclined in its final years was used for comms to the polar bases! :-lmao

eBird 1- Eurobird 3 - Eutelsat 33A - Eutelsat 31A now inclined @ 30.8 east

Astra 1D/2D/3B were some of the last spinners in Europe

3A was a spinner, 3B is a standars 3-axis stabilisation bird. I think 1D is 3-axis as well, although its been a long time since I looked 1D's specs up

What do you expect - this is the European part of the arc - interest in covering India is minimal on this part of the arc.....

Why, if european beams from 16e, 9e, 13e can reach India, why not Astra's beam.
They have specifically dedicated its beams to centre only and around europe. :unsure

13E & 16E are a historical accident. When the first satellites were launched the beam shaping technology was rudimentary to say the least & 13E & 16E were amongst the first European slots to be activated.

The days of the ultra wide beam satellite are over though - with more and more satellite slots being opened up the coverage zones of new birds is being cut back to avoid interference. You can wave goodbye to a lot of 9E when the new satellite takes over in the next year or so - the multiple spot beams will see to that

Hard though it is to accept, Indian coverage is low on the priorities for most of the European zone operators, and they certainly arent going to design wide beam craft just so a few thousand hobbyists can watch European tv.

Same reason satellites destined for India don't really have footprints that reach Europe. There are still satellites that have wide footprints (such as that Turkmen one at 52e) but they are few and far between.

One of the biggest reasons why european/russian beams dont reach India, is bcoz some of the server owners/ cccam owners dont want, european/russian chnls ( specially with some adult content), to be available free of cost for everyone to see, via a dish system.

They want people to but server accounts, or buy international boxes ( having cards facility), by which one can watch thousands of chnls of almost all countries.
In India, costs for such boxes go upto Rs. 30,000 ( with one year of subscription)

So, u can say, its kind of an unsaid MOU between a lot of stakeholders here. Things arent that simple, as they seem to be. :-deadhorse

30k rupee orr a year - thats £300 here give or take a few pounds. Many people in the uk pay the equivalent of well over 10k rupees a MONTH for their pay tv service. And remember the uk mature content / adult channels are a complete joke with limited nudity and certainly no hard core - and to add insult to injury the adult services are extra on top of the ridiculous amounts already being asked for.

They are very simple - the beams are shaped by the demands of the broadcasters that will be hiring space on the craft. SES admitted this was an important part of the design process when the new uk astra 2 sats were being commissioned.

Eute 33C is a bit different as its an old satellite being reused. Eutelsat will be optimising the beam for its new slot. Obviously India does not figure in plans for this craft at this slot

To be honest I very much doubt the wishes of some small time illegal server operators have any bearing on the planned operations of a multi million Euro international operation.
