Renault going would obviously swing the balance of power back to FIA from FOTA, privateers don't have the resources or commercial interests to push FIA like manufactuers do. This could have serious consequences, including the British GP being under considerable threat from money-making new territories, the continuing lack of races in the US, budget caps, maybe even standardised engines.

There is nothing like a bit of positivity, ambition, thirst for success etc topped off with a big helping of miserable failure :-rofl2

It is a shame they did not do more in the 7 years they were racing or was it six?

Granted, Toyota have been a massive failure, especially considering that only Ferrari have spent more than them over the duration.

Still, if you look at those who have left and Renault, the record is impressive:

Honda - More or less financed the development of the 2009 Brawn GP car, also had a championship-level end to the 2006 season with Button.

BWM - 16 podiums and 1 win, 2nd in 2007 and 3rd in 2008 in constructors championship.

Renault - 2 world drivers' championships for Alonso, as well as 2 team titles, developed the revoluntionary (and subsequently banned) mass damper system.

Toyota - Undoubtedly a failure, but there were signs that it could have worked when Gascoyne was there (4th in '05), sacked for making statements of micromanagement by heads.

Quite.

McLaren will be an interesting watch next season: Hamilton and Button in hopefully a car which performs from the off. In theory, Lewis will obliterate Jenson, but being proved wrong would be a joy.

I think this will make McLaren stronger. They'll still have the best engine on the grid, they'll have greater independence, and in my opinion they'll have the two best drivers.

As for Mercedes GP, this sounds like a German Ferrari, the word going around is that Heidfeld and Rosberg will be the drivers.

Hopefully them two, Ferrari and Red Bull can all come out with race winning cars, 2010 would be a season to remember then. Oh, and there's Lotus of course...

Wow!
where did that come from?
Such a shame that a privateer team is now gone again...
Hope Jenson will like Mclaren as he will be the new boy & look what happened to Fernando there...

I can't wait to see the battle between JB & LH an an even keel who is best?

"Raikkonen is being paid a sum believed to be in the region of 20m euros not to race for Ferrari in 2010, but still wanted to be paid what he felt was a fair sum to drive for another team."

I'd not race for Ferrari for much less than that! :)
