Dana Andrews stars as a New England State Attorney who determines to prove vagrant Arthur Kennedy innocent of the murder of a prominent churchman. With Lee J Cobb, and Jane Wyatt.

18:40 Always Film (1989) Not necessarily Steven Spielberg's greatest hit but still more interesting and endearing than what most directors could create. Thriller starring John Travolta as a divorced dad forced into a confrontation with his son's stepfather, played by Vince Vaughn.

23:00 Assault on Precinct 13 Film (1976)

John Carpenter's second feature is a stylishly straightforward thriller in which cops and cons are trapped in a small LA police station by a heavily armed gang intent on freeing one of the prisoners. Edge-of-seat stuff, with Austin Stoker, Darwin Joston and Laurie Zimmer holding the fort superbly.

00:50 The Pillow Book Film (1995)

Peter Greenaway's film is a feast for the eye but the story itself is equally absorbing. Nagiko (Vivian Wu) who has a fetish for calligraphy on the human body meets ideal soul-mate Jerome (Ewan McGregor), an English translator sent to Japan. A torrid, lurid melodrama, full of passion, jealousy and revenge.

18:30pm Battle of Britain (PG) 1969

Visually spectacular star-studded World War Two epic focusing on the exploits of the brave Allied airmen who prevented marauding Nazi forces invading Britain. It's just a shame the huge number of big-name stars, including Laurence Olivier, Robert Shaw and Christopher Plummer, prove such a distraction from the actual story. Susannah York, Michael Caine, Kenneth More and Trevor Howard also appear (888)

21:00pm Changing Lanes (15) 2002

A minor car accident leaves up-and-coming lawyer Ben Affleck and insurance salesman Samuel L Jackson caught in a horrifying spiral of violence and revenge against one another. Once there, she finds she is godmother to Chris, who is heir to a fortune but her arrival has disrupted the murderous plans of the boy's guardian, Alan Spender and nurse. His plans to get rid of the boy must be put on hold while he concentrates on Victoria and how better to start than to make her fall in love with him... Robert Wise, better known as the director of West Side Story and The Sound of Music, enthusiastically embraced the film noir genre for this film, with Basehart superbly creepy as the Lothario with murder in mind and Baker the hard-hearted blonde moll.

16:45 Robert De Niro - A Portrait (Documentary)

Robert De Niro talks exclusively to Film4 about his work on Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter and Once Upon a Time in America and about The Good Shepherd, his new film which he directs and stars in, which opens this month.

18:55 Baby Boom (Film) 1987

Soon, her boyfriend has left and she's lost her job. She starts a new life in Vermont, where a local vet soon takes a marked interest in her in Charles Shyer's gentle comedy, which is lifted by Keaton's superb performance.

Ben Affleck plays well-heeled lawyer Gavin Banek dashing to a meeting; while Samuel L Jackson takes the role of Doyle Gipson, a separated parent on his way to a child custody hearing. But Gipson has an equally vital document belonging to Banek and so begins a battle of wills and wits in Roger Michell's fast-moving thriller.

22:55 Taxi Driver (Film) 1976

01:10 Robert De Niro - A Portrait (Documentary)

Robert De Niro talks exclusively to Film4 about his work on Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter and Once Upon a Time in America and about The Good Shepherd, his new film which he directs and stars in, which opens this month.

01:35 National Lampoon's Animal House (Film) 1978

This landmark comedy from John Landis has been often copied but never bettered. John Belushi, Tim Matheson and Tom Hulce are just three fraternity guys of Delta House at Faber University where kegs, women and music are preferred to studying Milton. But when the Dean threatens to close them down, it's time to unite and fight. Absolutely hysterical, with Belushi giving one of the best slob-out performances in film history and some of the best gags to hit the screen.

15:00 Moulin Rouge (Film) 1953

Jose Ferrer stars in John Huston's visually exquisite biopic of Toulouse-Lautrec as the crippled painter whose work perfectly captured the spirit of bohemian Paris in the naughty 1890s. The film overdoses on artistic licence in its romanticised portrayal of the artist as embittered loner, tormented by his doomed relationships with prostitute Marie Charlet and sympathetic model Myriamme Hayam.

17:20 The House on Telegraph Hill (Film) 1951

A Valentina Cortese plays Victoria Kopwelska, a survivor of the Nazi death camps. 21:00 The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (Film) 2003

Sean Connery stars in this all-action adventure as Allan Quatermain, called out of retirement in Kenya to help the government avert a world war being fermented by master criminal The Phantom. Quatermain gathers together a top team; Dorian Gray, Captain Nemo, Mina Harker and The Invisible Man are among those recruited, each with a spectacular skill. From Venice to the wastes of Mongolia, the team face perils and death in their desperate race against time. 23:05 Scandal (Film) 1988

Real-life story of the 1963 Profumo Affair that led to the fall of the current Conservative government. John Hurt plays Stephen Ward, the osteopath who introduces showgirl Christine Keeler to both cabinet minister John Profumo and a Russian spy.

01:15 Brotherhood (Film) 2004

Kang Je-Gyu's film is set during the Korean War but told from the point-of-view of two brothers drafted to fight for the South Korean army against the North. Rather like Band of Brothers or Full Metal Jacket, the film follows them through both bloody conflict and periods of R&R, with the impulsive Dong-Kun balanced by the sensitivity of his brother. But Dong-Kun is reckless for a reason - conspicuous bravery may see his younger brother released from service early. However, his daring deeds turn into a taste for glory, which only serves to alienate his sibling as one of the 20th-century's post-WWII conflicts unfolds.

15:00 Laura (Film) 1944

Otto Preminger's sharp film stars Dana Andrews as Mark McPherson, a cynical detective who investigates the brutal murder of a beautiful woman, only to be faced with plenty of suspects - and the unnerving knowledge that he is falling in love with the dead woman. The film boasts an outstanding performance by Clifton Webb as Waldo Lydecker, a waspish, acid-tongued gossip columnist who is one of the main suspects. Preminger's decision to use him proved the right choice, launching Webb on a considerable and successful film career. Other suspects include Vincent Price as Shelby Carpenter, the weak playboy fiance of the murder victim, and the always-reliable Judith Anderson as Laura's friend, Ann Treadwell.

16:50 The Wicked Lady (Film) 1945

A bawdy romp from Gainsborough Studios, Margaret Lockwood co-stars with James Mason as 17th-century beauty Barbara Worth, who leads a double life as aristocratic Lady of the Manor by day and highwaywoman by night. This was Gainsborough's highest ever grossing picture, no doubt due to Lockwood's then-daring plunging necklines - America demanded a more demure re-shoot before they'd release the picture.

18:50 The People that Time Forgot (Film) 1977

15:00 The Siege at Red River (Film) 1954

Van Johnson as Confederate agent James Faraday, who steals a Gatling gun prototype from the Yankees easily enough. When Ben Crandall's dreams inspire him to create a giant circuit board, he discovers that they've invented a craft that can go through solid matter. Incredulous that a man who has no concept of the value of money has been left $3 million, he kidnaps Raymond and heads back to California from Cincinnati. But Raymond's refusal to fly forces them to drive, and a touching relationship develops along the way.

23:35 The Deer Hunter (Film) 1978

Introduced by Robert De Niro. Oscar-winner Michael Cimino's Vietnam epic centres on the effect of the war on six workers from a Pennsylvania steel town, both those who went and those who stayed behind. Robert De Niro turned in one of his finest performances with Meryl Streep, John Savage and John Cazale excellent support and Oscar-winner Christopher Walken, as the eventually maddened professional Russian roulette player, outstanding.

17:15 Prince Valiant (Film) 1954

Veteran director Henry Hathaway's Arthurian adventure is based on the popular newspaper cartoon strip by Hal Foster. Robert Wagner plays the eponymous prince, a Viking invited to join King Arthur's court. But the evil Sir Brack plans to oust the king and then invade Valiant's Scandanavian home and only Valiant can stop him. Janet Leigh and Debra Paget are the respective love interests to both parties and, with much of the film being shot in Britain rather than on a Hollywood back-lot, viewers will enjoy identifying castles and locations that form a backdrop to the rousing action.

19:15 Thunderbirds Are GO (Film) 1966

Feature-length version of Gerry Anderson's classic supermarionated adventure series. When the first manned mission to Mars is sabotaged by a sinister character known as the Hood, International Rescue are called in to protect the astronauts set to undertake the second mission.

Stephen Norrington's fantasy, set in an alternative Victorian world, is frantic fun-filled action from start to finish, with the witty script matching awesome special effects.

23:05 Bad Influence (Film) 1990

James Spader is a LA marketing executive who has it all - except self-esteem. Into his life comes drifter Rob Lowe, whose idea of a good time is s_x and drugs and soon Spader lets himself go but as Lowe's actions begin to spin out of control, Spader wants him out of his life. But Lowe has very deadly ways ok keeping him close in Curtis Hanson's taut, disturbing psychological thriller.

01:00 A Fistful of Dynamite (Film) 1971

James Coburn plays an Irish mercenary who meets up with bank-robber Rod Steiger in revolution-torn Mexico where the former's expertise with explosives helps the latter pull off the biggest heist of his career. Inevitably, politics intervene and the pair find themselves reluctant freedom fighters taking on the army in Sergio Leone's final spaghetti western.
