I think it may be something to do with posts being allowed from non logged in users?
If a member loses their login details and need to contact the forum admin for assistance in regaining access this section is where they would post.

Presumably, due to non logged in users being able to post, all the posts require moderation before being approved for visibility on the forum?
That's exactly the reason. We frequently have to delete/ban spammers who post here without logging in. Moderating every post ensures that the members never see that rubbish.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Paul.

Surely then, on that basis, ALL posts in EVERY thread should be moderated before being shown?

That, clearly, is not viable, and therefore the realistic alternative is that ONLY subscribed members should be able to post - and I would have thought that to be "doable" by restricting posting to only those members, but that posts by new members should then be moderated for an agreed number of times before those members have free reign to post as and when they want to?

I know that that approach is certainly used on a number of other forums of which I am member as it has happened to me quite recently (on the PPRUNE aviation forum).

I did not see the beginning of the thread before it disappeared but just to clarify, by definition this section Site Access or Membership Problems. is just that i.e. a section for subscribed members who are unable to login, for whatever reason. Just because one person chose to abuse that facility does not make it untenable as it is moderated in the same way new members are moderated for a small number of posts, which is as it should be. Using your formula a locked out member would just throw their arms up in the air and wave goodbye or alternatively create a second profile, whereas using the option of this section gives them a third option of informing us and it being discussed. So of course it is logical to have this section moderated to stop such abuse.

I have just run into the same problem testing tethering using an EE SIM from Now Mobile.
It looks as though the connection stalls at the "establishing secure connection" stage.
The browser status says "waiting for satellites.co.uk" and the indicator says the connection is not secure.

A browser running on the phone won't connect either.

Since I was testing tethering to my PC, I can do the connection with the same browser connected via wi-fi to my broadband router and that connects to www.satellites.co.uk correctly.

I don't think I had this problem testing tethering using a Vodafone SIM from ASDA

All of the other sites I routinely visit work correctly with tethering using the EE SIM.

As can be seen for this page it is secure, a shot in the dark but perhaps if you are using one, your VPN is blocking connection? It happens to me a lot

I'm certainly not using a VPN. The website worked ok on the same SIM card for many years until say the last few months.

I'm not using a VPN. It's just an Android 12 phone connected via a USB cable to a PC running linux exactly the same as when it's connected via Wi-Fi. The NAT may be different but there's no VPN.
It does seem to be specific to satellites.co.uk with EE. None of the other sites I visit is affected.

Hasn't worked for me via mobile internet for the last few months either - I'm also on EE.

What version of Android and what browser are you using @rolfw ?

If everyone could quote those we might see some pattern.

It’s an iPhone SE2020 Paul, with standard iPhone browser. I think my problem this morning is 4G coverage and the full screen pop up adverts. I don’t usually use the phone for the forum.
