I'm willing to bet it was either the Live or Neutral riveting that failed, I was just reading back and reminding myself how badly those things were put together, but I will say the modified unit of mine is still working perfectly in it's replacement case...

And it's replacement plug is still doing sterling service in the living room, such handy devices, especially for my now disused Toshiba TV which has a broken power switch which is always on, and the modified standby saver being used instead to switch it on and off... :)

Haven't got round to connecting my new Samsung TV up to it yet though... O-Ha

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

It's apart, but at a glance there is no real damage I can see. The wiring looks fine to the 'plug' and 'socket' parts, there is no charring of the PCB, no dry joints, and all components are intact and undamaged.

Is the white block next to the relay a fuse, perhaps?

The problem with them was the Live & Neutral pins and the way they were riveted on, there's only a paper's width of metla holding the two together, so I suspect that if you give either one's corresponding socket contact a pull, it'll be loose...

Looking inside of my modified one, it all looks the same (bar my repairs and modifications), so no blown components, unless the blue relay has bitten the dust on yours...

............. most Relays can be encouraged into action by a sharp tap with the butt end of a screwdriver.

Done that with Audio Systems, Ham Radio gear etc.

A duff relay wouldn't be the cause of a dead unit though.

Will check the individual components tomorrow.

Before the components, check continuity between the Live pin and the red wire leading from it... :)

And the replacement one has died (lights up, but does not accept the new command for switching off).
