Hi.

I’ve been through three Freesat 4k boxes now. The last two, I’ve found that sometimes when you turn it on the screen is entirely pink tinted and there is no audio.

Freesat support day it’s probably my tv ‘not compatible, but.. hdmi is hdmi and compatibility isn’t an on and off thing?

It’s really annoying as the box wasn’t cheap. I’m a day or two out of return window with curry’s, but might try it and get a Manhattan box instead.

The TV is an LG 49” HDTV from about 2015. Never had these issues with any other kit, no matter how new. Was mainly wondering if anyone else has this problem.

Does it happen with all resolutions and have you tried a different HDMI cable, preferably a 'certified' one? Also does the same happen if you use a different HDMI socket on the TV?

Same in all resolutions. Same in different socket. It’s only occasionally but enkugh to be annoying!

I had the same problem and cured it by buying 2 new HDMI cables. Problem has not returned, except for when my wife dislodged one of the cables when doing the dusting.

It seems strange that it’s intermittent. You’d think of it was the cable it would be all the time. But this is with the cable it came with, and also a cable from another device that has never exhibited the issue! And hasn’t since I returned it back to that device.

I turned off HDMI CEC and it hasn’t done it in like three weeks.. but it’s back again. So annoying. If it was a cheap box i might make accept it but this is the ‘premium’ option.

Cat, dog budgie or young child brushing past the cable and dislodging it?

Nothing. Nothing goes back there. Our cat only sleeps on the sofa. I can turn it off and on while being on the sofa doing nothing else and it will happen. It just takes a reboot to solve it - I’m never jiggling cables around.

My JVC telly sometimes doesn't play nicely with my Freesat box and shows a green screen instead. Easily solved by cycling through the TV Sources.

Unfortunately HDMI is a bad standard regarding compatibility.
I saw many situations like that, in which one specific device has problem to speak with a specific TV but perfectly works with all the others.
Sometimes the problem is HDCP, but it is not easy to find the right solution.
So, are you sure that the cables you tested are really 4K certified? Not all new cables that you find in the market are 4K-enabled, so check this detail that's not a minor one.

This is the cable it was supplied with. And I’m not even using 4k - it’s a 1080 screen and the output is set to 1080.

Let’s say it’s not compatible. Why would it work most of the time, just not on occasion?

Have you tried the solution that works for me - cycle through the "TV Sources"?

Could be a HDCP handshake/timing problem. Do you have anything like a HDMI splitter or switch that can go between the receiver and TV? A HDMI splitter that strips HDCP might work as the receiver would handshake with the splitter and not the TV.

There’s a good chance based on the age of the TV that the HDMI input circuitry on the TV is going bad or possibly the HDMI socket has come loose and somehow shorting.

Assuming you have two HDMI inputs I assume you have tried both with the same results. Also ensure you have nothing else attached to the HDMI input on your TV when doing your test.

I’d definitely go for the HDMI switch option, either manual switch or remote switch.

That doesn’t work. If you navigate away and return back to the same source, the video is still pink.

I have three HDMIs and the issue exists no matter where it is connected. I have other devices attached to the TV that have never once exhibited this issue so I really don’t think it’s a TV fault.

Well if you’re that confident your TV is in rude health try the HDMI switch or a completely different model of tuner. Before you look at an alternative tuner try hooking up the one you have to another TV to see if it displays similar behaviour. Where possible try keeping your HDMI cables matched. Do you know what version of HDMI that your TV and tuner have.
