Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Ref the TEK and HP CROs:

I simply don't have the space for a CRO, but have a hankering for some sort of small/cheap, but capable, dual-channel DSO with a decent b/w - any suggestions (price limit would be around £250ish, new or s/h)?
Anyone tried any of the USB DSO's?

I've seen mention of Velleman, Hantek, Pico and Virtins, amongst others, as having DSOs within my projected price range but don't know how "good" or "bad" they really might be.

Something like that could be very useful because they are even smaller than DSOs with screens and I have a PC sitting here that could be used (well, that ACER Veriton is actually hanging on the wall) and a connected monitor (again on the wall), and I could probably find a way to wall-mount a USB DSO (I'm not joking when I say I have virtually zero space for anything new, especially on the desks!)

They are not remotely in the same league as Rigol, it's worth putting that little bit extra towards it, or looking for a pre-loved Rigol.
As the old adage goes... You get what you pay for.

Hantek is mentioned as an equivalent priced / specked device in the Amazon link above, but the reviews are more mixed.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hantek-DSO..._rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=2QPQ1G3TN6FWN530Z75S

Not had a chance to read more into it.

Decided to have a play with the scope today.

Stripped her down for an internal inspection, wow it really is like new inside!
Checked for an important modification and it has been carried out as these had an issue when new that the CRT filament voltage was too high (The transformer has a 01 sticker, which means it's had the modification)

Everything looks lovely inside, one thing I did notice is that the CRT has an orange graticule scale underneath the lens, there is also a space on the scope for a lamp.
I might retrofit a white LED or a lamp in there to illuminate the scale.

They are crap imho, Picoscope make a decent one but is very expensive.
If you really cannot stretch to a Rigol have a look at this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Siglent-SD...UTF8&qid=1537176572&sr=8-1&keywords=SDS1052DL
From this video

It's a Rigol DS series, 1054 or 1064

Which are outside your budget, however the 1052 looks to be a bargain.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rigol-DS10...1537029261&sr=8-1&keywords=oscilloscope+rigol

The 1052 was good in its day, but the 1054 is leagues ahead and worth that little more.

Many thanks.
The comments about the USB DSOs are both interesting and relevant because there are always compromises when part of an instrument's function is off-loaded to something else - and I can see that happening here (also, like many people, I do sometimes like actual knobs to "fiddle with", rather than just on-screen menus and a mouse!)
As for price limits, it's not so much a matter of what I can afford to spend as what I can justify (to myself!) spending in terms of the "return on investment" - so, £50 or so, either way, is not the final arbiter.<_<

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

I paid a total of £25 for my little scope on ebay, could have had other slightly better ones for a similar price at the time, just a case of I bid & won that one so didn't pursue any more...

Now building up my electronics test kit acquisitions list for Winter pastimes and activities, and one of the Rigols or Siglents is likely to be on it (although I will keep my eyes out on ebay for something as good and maybe cheaper)
(I was going to get a classic car to "do up" - Scimitar GTE being a likely target - but have realised that there are several major factors preventing that, notably my dodgy knees & back, and the low roof height of the garage which means I can't really raise a car that high, leading to a lot of crawling underneath :()

There has never been a section on this forum for that sort of thing.

Not a particular;y good pic but the store room is full of junk at the moment!

There are 2 of these. Ch2 is marked as faulty on this one. Both still have the hard plastic clipover travel cover which goes over the front panel

There is a third smaller much CRO with a circular screen - forgot to photo that one. Any amount of computer junk - some previously mentioned, a reel to reel tape recorder. 4 nasboxes (all in use before anyone tries to nab them!)

One dead Ricoh copier & finisher units awaiting uplift by Ricoh

Oh and 3 virtually new Xerox printers - which have been awaiting pickup & redeployment elsewhere in the council, but no-one seems to be too bothered about collecting and have been cluttering my store room up for over a year!!

The physics dept should have some "newer" CRO's - I got them donated to the school about 10 years ago. I will see if I can find one of them & photo it. As far as I know they are still used occasionally
