Telephone: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone .

Radio: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invention_of_radio. (see Wiki citations - at bottom - for articles on "did Marconi really receive transatlantic signals?", which were mentioned above in this thread).

And ... Television. Where, Baird was just one of many pioneers. Unfortunately, there isn't a "good" early tv technology website, probably the "best available" one - although heavily USA biased - is:
http://www.earlytelevision.org/scandisk.html .

As you can see, who invented what and when isn't that simple or straightforward ......

(added) PS, not many people think Tesla invented radio, but otherwise that link is very good indeed.

The Russians are the greatest inventors because they invented all their inventors.

some interesting stuff here ....

1) How about electric lingerie ?

2) Was Tom Crapper a real person ?
www.theplumber.com/crapper.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Crapper

3) During the Soviet years, Russia was constantly playing "cold war catchup", but is it true to say they invented their inventors?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missile_gap
http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/cold.war/episodes/12/interviews/mcnamara/

http://inventors.about.com/od/russianinventors/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Russian_inventors

(For example, there's no doubt at all that Tsiolkovski wa the first person to "invent" spaceflight, with Goddard, Von Braun, Oberth, Ley, - not to mention Arthur Clarke - etc, all heavily indebted to him. And, Russia also had Korolev, for a long time known only as the "chief designer":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergey_Korolev).

(((I know we're not supposed to discuss politics, so this last one is maybe getting off-topic, but I believe cold war stuff has become a matter of historical record, and is not current politics!))).

I believe that Crapper was, in fact, the manufacturer and that the inventor of the water closet was a certain Thomas Harrington.

Excuse me but I need to go for a quick harrington...
