Sky must have the old BBC card numbers on their system because when pouting for a card your card switches off when the computor sends your new card, and the new card comes from Sky,saying sorry for the problem with your card, please acept this shiny new one....brian

Is there a way of stopping the stupid message that pops up a million times when watching ITV etc? I managed to stop some of them by pressing the red button, then choosing cinema tickets, and then full screen. That way I could at least watch a program without the message. Only problem is, it only works wherre they give you the option of interactive, and also you cant change channels as then it goes out of the interactive mode.

If the card you are using has your or a friends address in the uk to which a new card can be sent and forwarded to you (we are talking about Your Viewing Of These Channels Will Soon Cease) then you need to POUT for a new card. Mail Me..Brian

@Maxi 1

According to posts elsewhere, no phone connection is needed. I received a new card today, having done the online registration on thursday, so pouting still seems to be an option. (I can't try the card until it reaches the box, which is in a different place from the registration address). Whether it is a long term solution or not, we shall have to see- I guess sky could turn the card off again if they want to- but it seems worth a go. It's only £5, and I'm not even sure if that is going to be taken from my account, as the registration has supposedly failed.

Erm, isn't it because you tell them your card number when applying?

But,according to reports,if you use a card number that does not correspond to your address, the card goes to the previous address, one post read,(i popped round to my old address and my pouted card was there)................and it was not the bbc that posted it!!............brian

Hello all,

In response to Frazers recommendations, I have decided not to take his advice.

The reason being that the mature content firm he mentions ask for the three securtiy numbers on the back of the credit card. This info should never be given to anyone except your bank.

Also the application page also asks for the telephone number which is used for the digi box. Why ask for this if the phone line is not neccesary. The question is also marked mandatory.

This idea does not seem secure!

No, it's standard practice on Internet sites to ask for the three digit check number. This avoids someone using just the card number, e.g. obtained from a payment counterfoil. The three digit number shouldn't be confused with your four digit PIN code which you use with cash machines etc. The PIN code shouldn't even be disclosed to someone at your bank.

If you are pouting for the 5 pound registation and the 3 pounds plus per night, the phone number is needed to register, even if the sign-up fails.....brian

Just to follow up the previous two posts, I have been asked many times for the security code when using my credit card online, and the registration form for Pout will need to ask for your digibox number as this is the only way you can receive pay-per-view events; the point is that when the registration fails, and you are sent a new card, the free channels- ie ITV, CH 4 and Ch 5- will work without needing the digibox to be connected to the phone line. If you really do want to see Pout, then the phone would have to be connected.

Whether there will be a sting in the tail of this method, we shall have to wait and see- although I can't imagine that we can actually be accused of doing anything wrong by trying to register for a pay-per-view service. But at the moment, it does seem to offer the best chance to keep access to the "free" channels after the big switch off.

The profiteers of this fiasco have started! see http://www.skycards.net/en-us/dept_3.html

They are asking a massive £179 GBP for the "Free" Solus card

I would advise prospective buyers to "wait and see" a lot of pressure is going on in the background to resolve the solus card debacle. ^-J

Please remember that these companies are providing a service to ex-pats. People in the UK will not buy them because and only because of price.

Anyone charging 3 figures for a "free Card" is taking the p***

Further to the information about Pout TV let me provide some clarification.

If you have an existing FTV card which is being switched off for ITV, C4 and five then you can get it replaced FREE via the website at www.pouttv.co.uk ....

This will apparently only work if you still have access to the UK address that the original card was sent to because the new card will also be sent there (regardless of what address you enter during registration). Simply follow the procedure on the web site to sign up for their Pay Per View service. There is a £5 registration fee, however this will not be charged. The reason for this is that you registration will fail (after entry of the credit card #) when their system detects that you have entered an obsolete viewing card number. The cool thing is that it will result in SKY automatically sending you a new viwing card. As long as you don't then re-register with Pout using the new card, you pay nothing. The viewing card however works straight away just like your old card used to.

If you cannot follow this procedure (e.g. because you have no card or you don't know it's "address") then there is an alternative ......

Apparently if you phone pout (number at www.pouttv.co.uk) and tell them you have a digibox but no card (say you just bought the digibox off ebay for example) then they will take your £5 and send you a new card. As long as you specify you want the Pay Per View service, you will never pay anything else. You do need a UK FORWARDING ADDRESS to do this. I think £5 (about €7,00) is pretty cheap for a viewing card offering ITV, C4 and five.

Hope this provides clarity and illustrates you DON'T need to aggree to any contract, not even for 3 months with Pout.

Sentanta Sports will only let you subscribe to them if you have a Sky package, not if you have a non-subscription viewing card. At least that is what they have told me twice when I appliedto them for a Scottish football season ticket.

You may find that this is technically a subscription card Devonbrown, as the payment is processed by the Sky system, so may be OK with Setanta.
