Hi everyone, I'm leaving in West Africa and interested in getting Astra 28.2 and Hotbird 13.0 on the same dish. Which LNB do you guys recommend? Would you recommend any 0.1Db LNB? I already got a 10 feet (4m) dish in place and I'm just worried about the signal strength for both LNB's on the same dish. Any advice will be life saving for me at the moment :)

Moved your post to a new thread, it was tagged onto an unrelated one.

Your first question should be, can you pick up 28E and 13E with your dish?

If so, check out which one is generally weaker, or are they about the same.

Bias the LNBs accordingly.

The LNB types used will depend on the dish type, upload a photo of it perhaps

What is your dish focussed on at the moment?

I shouldn't have thought Senegal was remotely near the Astra 2 Footprint and not receivable with any size of dish.

The only 28E beam remotely possible in Senegal will be the west African beam on Astra 2B. Theres no chance of getting the UK channels without a ridiculously large dish.

10 foot is closer to a 3 meter that 4 meter.
there is guy in south america that built his own dish 8 meters and froze the lnb just to get that extra 1 bd and that german guy i think picks hot bird 13 east.
seeing all the tech he did he is the man.

Oops, yes, 10 foot = 3.04m. There's a few English speaking channels on Nilesat, you'd have more of a chance with that.

From searching, that area and islands close by (Cape Verde) it was suggested around a 5Mtr for the spot beam. Possible sniff from the side lobes of the South beam but well outside the official documented footprint. It's a fair bit more South from Canaries which requires a 3Mtr for spot and 1.0m for South. You'd need to consider bigger.

I think there is an outside chance OP might pick at least some transponders of one or other of either Astra 2B (European beam) or Hotbird with the 4m dish; unlikely, however, that he can pick both with one offset on the one dish.

I posted a report for Nigeria (not too far away from Senegal) in the following terms some time back:
there are now reliable reports of reception of the same Astra 2B transponders mentioned here on a 3m dish in south western Nigeria; and several transponders on Hotbird are even received on a 2.4. ...... Astra 2B and two of the confirmed transponders are 12383H and 12402V

I'm waiting for the delivery of a new 4m dish to have a go at Astra and Hotbird but at the moment i'm on Nilesat 7 and Badr 6. Signal is perfect and my dish size is just 135cm :) A friend of mine in Morocco was able to lock on HB and Astra with a reasonable dish as well. my guess, if I double the dish size we should both be in the same range, am I right? :)

Senegal is a LONG way south and west of Morocco - I rather doubt you will have much luck, especially with 28E Astra 2, but have a go and good luck!

Again I doubt it, but try it and see. Extreme fringe reception is a bit of a black art. Just sometimes odd things happen and you get reception in areas where it wouldnt be expected.

The closer you are to equator, more incorrect the sat coverage maps are and more chances for receiving signal. Do you ever wonder, why Claus in Brazil receives astra? Just look at his location - the direct physical distace between him and sat is relatively lower. For example, lowest available distance from 19.2E position to earth is in Congo, Africa.

So our friend should give out a try.

I don't get what you are saying here. Germany is 38,500 km from Astra 1, Brasil is 40,600 km.

Hi Guys, I was able to get my 3,20m dish in place and got a lock on Astra 1 and Hotbird 13.0 But I finally opted for HB due to the channels variety. Problem is my LNB is not powerful enough and some transponders are dropping back empty. However Sky Italy, Cyfra+ and Nova are all fine with strong signal. I'm having issues though with Bis and N packages. Does anyone has a clue on which type of LNB I should be using instead of the current one. I must precise that the current LNB has be taken off a regular 135cm dish. does the LNB usually has an impact on the dish size? thanks in advance guys.
Cheers
