how about the wind stability of cheap (bigger)sat dishes?

Technomate 6800 linked to Diseq and 1.0m mesh dish. MVision HD2000 linked to 80c fixed dish. Open Box for door stopper.

I think there is another issue here. Depending on exactly how and where the dish is mounted, there is an argument that it is better for the dish to fold / disintegrate in sections under wind pressure than to sheer off. Or, worse case scenario, for the dish to hold but at the expense of the house / garage wall etc..

I have a 1.2M mesh dish and have frankly never been able to measure a significant difference between that and solid dishes including Channel Master.

Given all the predictions concerning increased storms, higher wind speeds and so on, I'd now think three times before putting a large dish on an exposed position.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Given the 'quality' of some stuff coming out from importers/distributors that really should know better, I would agree with you, but if you are seriously into looking for obscure or difficult channels, there are many suppliers out there that have retained their standards.

And some basic physics will determine the minimum required to prevent shear or tearing on a mount if you are worried about any freak weather conditions. Just ask.

Hallo, if have got an old Nordern Satelite 1.8m dish made of fiberglas which weights over 50kg. Have had never problems with strong wind. Have tested with unmounted motor(actuator). It did not even turn the dish at normal wind. I don´t know if such a dish is still avaible, but in this aerea are still a few mounted. They are not only in the garden as mine, also on the roof. I would look not for the cheapest dish, I would choose a solid one.

Very true. The Irte/Precision hybrid 1.8m on my roof hasn't shifted offline (with the exception of the wooden roof movement summer/winter) in some ten years.
