I'm not quite sure why the BBC is reporting in such a way, whatever is left is going to be battered by Jose in the next 24 hours.

There will be nothing of the old Barbuda left, (not that it is old in terms of suitable colonisation by humankind, planet Miller springs to mind). The multiple shipwrecks in the area are the clue, but people have short term memories.

Leeward Islands, particularly St Martin/Marteen, Barbuda and Antigua will get a serious kick from Jose, looking at the numbers.
Monserrat may also sustain substantial damage in the next 24 hours, Virgin Islands less so.
Puerto Rico and further west should escape the worst but if the current weather predictions prevail, Bermuda is still in the cross-hairs.
