DM500 tuner is very weak especialy compared to my old fortecstar which can receives hundreds of channels from Astra 2 while the poor DM500 cannot lock any transponder.

Is it possible to replace the preinstalled tuner with a new one?

I doubt you'd get your hands on one. Don't forget this box is long since dropped by DMM. Your only chance would be to get one from china. For the price I'd just buy a new box !

Thanks.
Do you know if new and expensive Dream boxes have more capable tuners than DM500s?

you cannot replace a tuner on a dreambox 500s full stop. the tuner is soldered to the motherboard. having said that i have never had an issue with the SD tuner in any dreambox. i do have issues with the later HD tuners. Now B16MCC did put in in the right direction on this with an amplifier solution but what I found in the end is that simply the quality of the clone dreambox tuners is not the best. its a matter of finding the right tuner. in your case you have no option. your 500s has a perfectly good tuner for SD (standard definition). the issue with you is that your dish is not pointed exactly as need be or the lnb you are using is simply of poor quality

thank you for your reply.
I may need to get a better LNB or use a longer cable instead of joining 2 cables.

Unless theres a serious impedance mismatch it wont make much difference. You probably need a bigger dish.

from experince, LNB matters in hot weather countries.... Tripoli is hot enough to burn normal plastic lnb and damage it in 5 months time, but also bigger dish might also be needed.... if you google DM500 tuner problem, you would find that exact version of clone dm have an issues, though its not from the main tunner but a very small peice around it, it does effect all H trans...
