Installed a roof top wi-fi antenna yesterday to see if i could pick up any access point's and to my surprise i can receive loads on unprotected routers,

Now if my Broadband goes down i will still have a connection to the net:)

There's a WiFi stick been attatched to the top of a CCTV camera here in Colne, if only I had a wireless PDA I'd go check it out... :D

As for building my own WiFi antenna, that's an idea... ;)

Very interesting thread m8, Didn’t know you could do this!

Some thing to look into. Do you just connect the Ariel to your existing

modem router?

Free Broadband!

How about connecting the roof top wi-fi antenna to a videosender receiver? Just think of all the security cams and late night movies from someone's cable/Sky box you'd be able to get! ;)

You are very wrongO-no

Ariel is just one brand of washing powder in fact there a few types of ariel alone,

I think it would be a good idea if you spend a few hours in a supermarket tomorrow and read up on ariel as you would not want to install the wrong one in your twin tub now would you,:-rofl2

MMMmmmm.....interesting - I live on the top of a hill overlooking both the city centre on one side of the house and loads of housing estates in the valleys on the other side.

I find 4 networks with just the card in the laptop - would be interested to see what an external aerial would get!

Leigh....

(PS - if thinking of getting an 'ariel' to recieve CCTV or digi-senders, make sure you get a 'colour' one!)

I think people were talking about cctv senders using the 802.11 a/b/g "wifi" wireless protocols ;)

if you pick a few networks with your embedded card, you'll be amazed to see what you can pick up with high gain omni/ directionnal antennas in clear places like your rooftop :D
