Well ,that won't bother us as we can't get 12.606V anyway.
We have also lost Film 24,(channel 157) one of the few FTA channels we can get here. Don't know what frequency it was on.

Film 24 is disappearing anyway - the epg slot has been sold to Sony for their new channel.

It was 11585H. Its now on 11221H

Not here, it's too strong for that. This screenshot is from the 90cm dish.

We have just lost ITV 1 Meridian HD via EPG 178 here in the Canaries. It has moved to the BBC HD TP on Astra 2D and is vertically polarised so is not receivable here.

We have also lost Channel 4 HD which has moved to Eurobird 1 and I have just noticed that E4 HD has also disappeared (from 11856 V 2 North).

There seems to have been some major changed made today and none for the better

Channel 4HD on EPG#140 disappeared but ITV1 HD on EPG#178 is still there on my 3m dish in Cyprus.(card registered to London postcode)

Only ITV 1 HD Meridian has moved. ITV 1 HD London is on Astra 2D on a horizontal TP.

The three Badr beams do encroach quite a long way into Europe. This might explain why EuroNews moved as it is designed for pan-European reception.

I still don't understand why C4 are allowed to go FTA on a pan European beam - could it be a temporary measure?

Perhaps they're relying upon the interference from Badr 4 to limit their reception!

Both ITV Meridian HD and C4 HD are NDS encrypted on the new frequencies. My screenshots confirm this.

C4 HD is expected to go FTA by April for Freesat. I expect ITV1 HD Meridian to go FTA shortly so that Freesat viewer in that region can be mapped to it instead of the London version (as at present).

Hey Everyone,

I'm new to the forum and have found a lot of the posts really useful so thought it was about time i joined up :)

I'm based out in Zakynthos / Zante Greece and have a 1.2 M Dish with good signal reception on both input 1&2 meters on my sky HD box on most channels.

I have fallen victim the the ITV1 and CH4 HD moves to and was gutted last night when they both vanished from view and now when i go to the signal meters on those channel numbers there is nothing, i'm guessing this is due to the fact they have been moved to 2D?

Is there anything i can do short of borrowing a huge dish from NASA or is it just the luck of the draw?

I still get ITV 2, 3, and 4 HD and ITV1 SD via manual tune in the 'other channels' section on the sky box.

Cheers for your advise in advance everyone,
Mark :)

The two HD channels you have lost have moved to Eurobird 1 not Astra 2D.

You will have to do without now (or move to western Europe where there are no problems!)

Hey,

Cheers for the info, in my ignorance i presumed it had moved to 2D and had a small footprint hence the reason i couldn't get it anymore, i am now a little wiser :)

How come ITV1 and Chan 4 HD and moved to EuroBird then? Do you think they will come back to Sky platform at any point?

Is the reason i can't get BBC HD the same or is that a footprint and dish size issue?

Sorry i'm not very techy and up on all this stuff, it's kinda a new area for me :s

Thanks again for all ya help,
Mark.

They are still on the Sky platform :D There are no reception issue here in western Europe.

EB1 has a more restricted coverage area than Astra 2A / 2B

Arqiva have taken over the distribution contract and the distribution on the wide(r)beam will be temporary until the new narrowbeam satellites start coming into service in a year or so. (And when that happens you will REALLY start to notice channel losses as there will be far more spotbeam capacity available....!)

Hey-ya,

OK i feel a lot more up to speed on this now and not such a dimbo hahahaa

I've noticed a lot of the bar's in the resort area's of the Island have 3 / 4 meter dishes and seems to get everything and i am much higher up with no obstructing buildings in the way and a clear view of the heavens.

If i went up to say a 2 meter dish do you thing this would help cure the problem and maybe safeguard against these oncoming narrow beams that are gonna come our way or do i need to think BIG dish wise?

Any thoughts?

Only you can decide if Brit TV is worth investing €1000's on, but there are no guarantees of reception once the new Astra 2's start going into service from 2012.

We already KNOW they have an additional Middle East payload on a spotbeam so when they fire up you will permanently lose anything carried on the same frequencies on the spotbeam aimed at Europe - the European frequencies will be completely overwhelmed by the much stronger ME signals..

Cant give you more precise details as they havent been publicly released but its a fair bet the main BBC & ITV frequencies will be ahem "Middle Easted"

Being higher up makes no difference, of itself.

The Satellites are 24,000 miles up above the equator, so even a few thousand of our Earth feet is insignificant. Given clear line of site, dish size is the crucial factor for a properly installed system.

As regards the impending spot beams, no-one can yet predict fringe performance other than to be fairly sure that in some areas that already require huge dishes, reception will simply become impossible.
