So ..a temporary reassembly of the gearbox ..
just make sure I can ...and so as not to lose parts ...
I took a few pics for reference which I'm posting here as they will be useful to me later ..and possibly to other members ..
You can clearly see how the sun and rain on the exposed smaller plastic gears has destroyed them ...
whereas the ones to the left that were protected from the sun have survived ..

Not even sure why I'm driven to do this now ...as I will only ever have a kit of spares when and if completed ..
No way I can seperate the Aluminium triangle from the main axel ...
Even after drilling out the cotter pin it so badly fused it simply will not move ..
If the triangle was still available as a spare part ..I could cut/grind it off ..
..but it aint..DSCF0045.JPG DSCF0046.JPG

Mine was also on pretty tightly. I loosened it up with some brute force action... hammer. First I made it move left and right around the axis and once it was loose enough, I hammered it from below to knock it off. Also, try plenty of penetrative fluid on it overnight or two before proceeding.

Dont you just love 'tools' ..
3 piece gear/bearing puller arrived this morning ..
cheap as chips as they say ..
£14 inc postage on ebay
Pulled the once siezed on bearing race from the main shaft ..with a little help from heat/cooling and penetrating oil ..
Here are the pics..

Good stuff that all it takes, a little common sense, ordering/making the correct tool for the job, I was using these years ago on cars, the process of removal is no different here :)

Last chance saloon for that bstd ally triangle ..
Drilled the cotter pin hole some more ..
Now 9.5mm ..
To be sure there are no cotter pin remnants that might hold on .
Created a tool working on the same basic principles as the bearing puller ..
Single threaded pin down into and end on to the main axle ...whils 2 more threaded studs screwed into the left and right holes of the trangle in line with the centre axle giving lift so opposing the downward force acting on the axle end ...
still it wouldn't move and I cannot tighten any further with spanners ..
So with the tool still in place and the forces still acting I've put the whole lump in the oven on max heat ..
(beats baking a cake)
Will get it nice n hot ..then a cold dunk in h2o ...
I will almost certainly melt the plastic collar under the triangle and still around the axle ...but hopefully this can be replaced ..if I ever get it seperated.

...Well ..thats the end of that ..
A sudden ping and the ally triangle broke in two ..
Thats how tight on the shaft it was ..
The ally lump would rather split than release from the shaft ..
cest la vie..
Tomorrow I'll cut the triangle off ..and reclaim what I can for spares..
The 2nd motor will never be repaired..

Only experts can really weld aluminium ...and besides ...
It's still seized hard on the axel ..
Not gonna bother trying to salvage it ..
just get as many spares as I can

I do not think such a triangle is super difficult to fabricate.

Perhaps not Rima ...but in light of the fact so much of this motor is aleady missing or damaged ..
I have to ask myself ...
Is it worth it ?

Well, finally unpacked the 1224 from the house move and decided to put the circlip back on. Very easy with the tool, no issues at all. Going to clean up the outside metal bits and give them a lock of paint and it'll be ready to go.

Also received my new toys today: a drill press, bench grinder, bench vice and a new SDS drill. The only thing I need is a bench....

So ..
finally got the first 2 mixed nylon gear packs from China ..
Interesting mix ..and found 3 x ..King gear ?? ...but only 2 are close enough to use.
Not sure if that is the right description so please correct me if you know better..
Shown in one of the photos below their broken counterparts ..
Sadly the one still in the gearbox with a larger pitch is not in the mix ..but maybe I can make this one in Liquid plastic ...or just keep looking ..
??
not that it will be used ..as the motor is beyond repair I fear ...but nice to have working spare parts..
So a few pics to shop the mixed gear selection ..
the 2 of 3 replacements found already ..( the 3rd being sighly short diameter wise)
The gear I have yet to find .. (third photo)
and 3 gears fitted ..and yes these do turn the limit switch gear ...but the cam gears that activate the micro switches themselves are not useable ... but are sloppy and too much play - so room for miscounts
So either I keep searching for these ...make them ...or maybe adapt ones from broken actautors..
Nice bag o bits tho' and cost so little..

..I still have a third bag of gears to arrive yet ..so ya never know..

Can anyone recommend a UK supplier for the elevation bolt and the declination bolt for a Jaeger 1224?
I think they are called swing bolts but they might have another name?

I think the elevation bolt is 205mm long and 16mm diameter but I can probably get away with a little less length?
The declination bolt looks to be 130mm long and 10mm diameter but I think I need to be careful with the length in case I run out of thread when setting the declination?

I am hoping to get them in stainless steel or inox or something else that will not rust as much as the originals.
The elevation bolt is not too bad as its more shielded from the weather so I could get away with cleaning it up. However, the declination bolt is rusted up a lot.

Some i picked up the other day, if you cant get them long enough, buy a long nut and some locking nuts and threaded rod to extend them to the length required. they also sell inox threaded rod.
