KinoTV pulls in Finnish audiences

Finland’s newly launched pay-TV channel KinoTV had reached 61,000 subscribers by the end of December, just three months after launch, according to SWelcom.

The Finnish media giant, which also runs the fourth channel Nelonen, has also launched a web-based ‘day & date’ service that allows viewers to watch episodes of popular television series just a few days after their original broadcast in the United States.

Cable operator Welho’s new look line-up resulted in strong growth in pay-TV, broadband subscriptions, and digital set-top boxes in the run-up to cable’s enforced analogue switch off later this month.

Welho now offers four HDTV channels and runs its own film and TV download service to broadband subscribers. In addition, Welho has launched an IPTV service in the Helsinki metropolitan area, bringing Welho’s TV services to customers outside the cable network.
