Who in England is receiving the KU circular polarization TV program? Which satellite? How big is the antenna? Thank you for sharing.

Have you got a name for the circular Tv program ? ... are you thinking of the satellite at 36°E which has a around 33 circular channels

36E Can circularly polarized TV programs be received in England? How much antenna do I need? Thanks.

Iv'e never tried to receive the circular channels on 36° East actually, i do have a Ku circular poloriser in my collection of things so when i get time i'll have a try on the 1.2 Gibertini offset dish.
I don't think i'll see much at all really on a 1.2 mtr, the circular footprint is on a Russian beam and drops nowhere near us in the UK but you never know.

@nelson_b received 36E circular Russian beam a few years back on his 2.4m CM up in Manchester, which was impressive. Would be interesting to see other people's results.

I tried it but only got around 3dB on those - make sure to pick transponders that are not reused for South Africa beam.

I tried a few years back, Rimnants kindly shipped over an LNB to try, but couldn't get lock on my 1.8..

The closest I came to a lock for one of the circularly polarised frequencies from 36E was for 12149L, SR27500, FEC 3/4.

I got this at 7.5dB using an SMW polariser inline with a C120 LNB. The frequency theoretically needs 7.9dB for a lock.
It was a teaser, left the dish on it for a few days in the hope of getting a glimmer of a lock. Without the SMW polariser inline I was getting 4.3dB.

Normally, the South of the UK has the edge for some of the out of footprint beams such as MENA and Middle East.
However, for the Russian beams I think the North of the UK may have the advantage based on other members results and locations?

Here are a couple of sites to help you out, the first on will give you an idea if your within the footprint for 36E.
Code:
https://satbeams.com/footprints?norad=41191

The only beam for the UK is the Eurasia beam, find your location and zoom in, it will you an estimated dish size for that beam. (id go as big as you can)

And this one will help with the pointing of the dish.
Code:
https://www.dishpointer.com/#page-top

Just enter your address and select 36E.

Reception of the Sub Saharan beam is possible in the UK although it carries no circular polarity frequencies.
See post 150 in the topic linked to below.

I had mentioned the other possibility in a PM earlier, wide beam of Express AT at 56E

Whilst not Ku band, many of the military satellites use circular polarisation at X band frequencies from memory, around 8-9 GHz.

That is actually worth a try as well. I know "pride21" was able to receive some circular Ku frequencies in the Channel Islands (Jersey?) on his 1.5m Gibertini, so if you have a line of sight there (I don't), it would be worth a look.

In fact.... @nelson_b was also able to lock a transponder from there

I think @nelson_b might be in a more favourable location for the Russian circular polarity stuff.
Unfortunately I have no clear line of sight beyond 54.9E to check 56.0E out. I can get some data channels from 57E but they are really strong, nothing for any feeds/general satellite though.

For 36.0E, I am not sure but I think something may have changed re the beam or beam power since the days when a few members were reporting reception a few years back?
They are tough ones to lock in the UK, that's for sure.

Yes - I think its slightly better for me here - further north ... i have received from 56 and 36 east here on 1.8 c.m. dish in the past ... but with no margin -1.8 is the minimum here.
The last time i checked 36 E (probably 2-3 years back now) there was just one Russian transponder receivable ... i think i had 3 originally ? .....
If the weather stays o.k later today i may put my k/u/ circular feed l.n.b on the 2.4 cm and see if any thing circular is still possible at 36E ... like you i don,t have a clear line of sight (partial roof blockage) to 56 E with this dish.

Hi -
I can confirm that 12149 L 27500 is still active ... its only borderline / intermittent lock though on 2.4 c.m. currently, due to heavy cloud and rain showers here at the moment .... all channels encrypted except 1 info screen/ channel.

@nelson_b

Thank you for checking and well done, those circular frequencies are not easy to lock.
Were there any others close to locking that you could "see" with the F15?

Bad weather closed in just after i posted this afternoon ... and the signal dropped to under 6.0 db ... that transponder needs 8.0 db minimum for a stable lock . ... the sky is clearing a bit now - i will leave the dish locked on this satellite for a while, so will look at other transponders later, or over the next few days.
