Thanks Ged ..
Rushed home to fit the new inverto black dual you got for me ..
Instant gratification ..

11247V 14.9db
12456V 15.9db
10778H 13.5db
12092H 15.0db

..and that's through my complex switch system which easily robs me of 3 to 4db insertion losses.
cheers mate..

You made me a very happy bunny ..and I suspect there is still a bit more to be had from tweaking.
Also happy you were impressed with my renovation ..
;)

Guess I didn't expect Carl to track the arc so well without further intervention ..
But just a quick test sending him to Hispasat Al Jazera international ..
Using the Skybox F3
SI 86
SQ 76
So certainly close to the arc I think.
Time for a well earned soak in the bath..
I've earned it.

Ok ..before I go for my soak ..
Can anyone help me ?
I need a roughly 6 to 8 inch length of steel tube/pipe
wall at least 1mm thick ..
Inside diameter 10mm ..
11mm at a push.
?
What's it for ? ...
To slide the M10 Eyebolt thread inside from either end ..thus making a continuous bar running accross the H180 top plate ..
This will stop the twisting action on the sides of the plate caused by the weight of the dish..

See photo ..

Hi Evan,

Glad you got it sorted looks like another faulty Single Black Ultra then ;-)

Good readings especially seeing as how you only roughly set it by Eye so to speak, Loved the Renovation Work just to let the other Guys know the Photo's dont really do it justice.

It literally looks like a new dish and the new Thread adaptors on the H180 are a vast improvement on the old one's :-)

Quick VS get a patent in before the company does LOL

Thanks mate ..you're very kind ..
I've been seeing problems and solving them most of my life...just dont understand why the manufacturer didn't do a better job of the design.
Like the time I was 9 years old and dropped half a crown down the grating in front of a bakers shop ..
I went home and created a spring loaded retrieval stick ...and realising it probably wasn't just me who lost money this way ..started rooting in the leaves dirt and crap ..
After that most saturdays you'd find me face down near a grid/grating topping up my pocket money ..much to the amusement of passers by ..
I had the last laugh though..
I was never short of pocket money.
More recently a young woman picking up her kids from the local school was seen weeping outside my shop..
Being a nosey sod I went out to ask what was wrong ..?
She sobbed that shed dropped her car and house keys down the grid by accident and was panicing how she would get home ..and then the cost of replacing them all ..
Shouldn't be a problem I said ..provided they are on a keyring and at least one of them is a mortice lock key..
I went back in my shop ..grabbed a speaker ..cracked it open ..retrieved the magnet popped it in a plastic bag ..tied a length of wire to the handles ..and went fishing ..
within 2 minutes she had her keys back and couldn't thank me enough..
See a problem ..see a solution
Don't think I'll ever patent anything ..lazy I guess..
Or automatically assume it's already been done ..as to me it often seems obvious.
cheers buddy.

I'm sure the setback will prove to be temporary, Evan.

Phew! I was right.

They don't call me "Reassuring Reg" for nothing.

In fact, they don't call me "Reassuring Reg" at all.

I was right about the extra wind loading..
Heavy gusts so far today ..and poor Carl is bobbing about some..
I think Some extra pole braces this summer ..assuming we get one.

Another important 'test' passed imo ..
Both Christina and Carl pointing at 1 West..
As expected Carl does mask Christina to some degree ..but acceptable to me ..
In actual fact ..if you look closely at Christina in the photo ..you can see a faint shadow cast by Carl ..

A rough guestimation is about 0.6db signal reduction on TPC C Band ..
..but providing I rotate Carl Edge on by pointing East or West ..this reduction is reduced to almost zero..
Certainly a worthwhile trade off in such a limited space such as mine.

...Getting a bit wild out there and was very worried about Carls bobbing motion..
A quick fix that has reduced his motion ..and take some of the load ..
The box being flexible and under tension from the ladders..
Perhaps I mounted the dish too soon ..
Bloody weather..
Fingers tightly crossed as I go open the shop.

I always thought that the concreted pole you have would give the dish a good bit of wobble. Is it filled with anything like concrete? That goes some way to stabilising the payload.

..Tis true ..I expected a bit of wobble ..and the good substancial stainless pole set in concrete isn't really gonna suffer any imo ..
No concrete inside the pole itself tho'
But this wind is serious stuff and the sustained whipping action combined with the extra dish surface area gave me more than I'd seen with Neil is all..
I fear more for the damage it may do to the H180 than anything else..
Aceb gave me some good ideas to spread the load to both sides of the motor ..but sod all I can do till the crisis is passed..

@Llew..
Weather still not really suitable for alignment etc ..but couldn't resist swapping out the ku for the ka lnb ..
Carl is still being subjected to gusts of wind ..but not wildly so.
However you know yourself how critical alignment , stability and no cloud plus a dry dish is for ka..(non of which I have today)
Interestingly ..and with no adjustments so far I locked albeit with some dropout Movi mux at 7East ..10:30 am ..
and was getting 6.5 occasionally ...lets say 6db on the other mux ( AZAM 21477H)
best time of day for this one please ..
If I could lock this mux on a non aligned dish even briefly ..I'd be VERY happy..
with a prospect of better to come.

Hi VS

I have the Ka LNB on the Triax TD88 at the mo, as I don't envisage climbing up to the Gibby while the wind is so strong.

However, I can lock and watch Muvi TV channels with it on the '88, coming in at 6.2dB.
No lock on Azam as I speak, need more than the 6.0dB I have now.
TPA Ok, never have problems with that -8.5dB.

Best time for me on this bird, early morning (~07:00 - 10:00)

Fingers crossed, when your dish is better aligned, hopefully you will be able to get the Azams ;)

Keep an eye on that H180, when I had it exposed to the elements on my Gibby 1.25, the twisting and turning in the wind misaligned the gearing, and I had to strip it down to set them again. Now on the TD88 in a lower position and working fine.

All looking good vipersan nice work:), I would get some threaded bar the same and two long nuts like below and some locking nuts, wind the long nuts on to whats there then place the threaded bar in between and wind them back and lock up with smaller locking nuts.

Yes, conspicuous by its absence at present. No nag feeds either, maybe later?

Well ..today Oi Av been mostly makin' a suitable adapter to carry the Gibby triple feed bar ..
You can see from the photo ..the bigger gibby angled attachment adapter is wide and thus too sloppy a fit on such a narrow square section boom arm ..
Hence my adapter cut from a thin piece of right angled steel ..and made in 2 halves to fit arround the boom and bolted through the 2 side boom support struts ..
Here are the pics ..

You'll get a better idea when it's mounted perhaps.

So here are photos of how it will work ..
The triple feed bar will have to be raised on a block of plastic or ally ...
and the angle of the adapters 2 wings adjusted to give the correct tilt backwards ..
