I've decided to dip a toe into C band using my spare 1.2PF Precision dish, the plan is to put a ground post in that will be good enough for something larger but wait till it comes along at the right price. I realise the 1.2 isn't really big enough to DX the world but should pick up a few sats from here.

Now, question is which LNB to get, it looks like a choice between the the DMX241 or the newer ESX241. I don't suppose anyone has (or knows of someone that has) compared the two? I can get them from fleabay either here or the US for about the same price and as there's no rush I don't mind waiting for slow shipping from the US but which one to get?

Hi Ace
Can't comment on comparisons between the two ...having never tested either ..
But from reports I've read they are both very good ..
The EMX being the most recent to market I suspect..
whatever you eventually choose ..
I wish you luck m8 ..and welcome to C band..
So few of us in the UK I think.

Thanks Pride, it does indeed. That LNB gets a thumbs up on one of the US forums I read too, interestingly there appears to have been some sort of legal case brought against the mannufacturer by the company that makes the BSC421 to stop them using similar sounding product names. The ESX241 used to be called the DMX421 but I'm not sure if it was updated or just renumbered, either way it does seem to have a slight edge over the BSC241. There's a UK seller offering the BSC241 for £34 delivered but as I wont be able to install it till Mid July when I've got a couple of weeks off I'll probably buy the ESX from the States and hope it arrives before then, shipped via USPS for £22 in total.

I should stop reading the US forums, I keep bumping into threads where they're collecting 3m BUDs for nothing as people are chucking them out

Nothing wrong with information, as long as you don't always act on it.

VS,

It may well be this one, item number 190508919044

The price is about right.

BTW, I don't think I'll have the time (or the money) this summer for C band experiments, maybe early Autumn!!

Thanks guys ..
Decided to take the plunge ..
For 22 quid ...I figured it worth taking a chance ..so I'll get to see first hand if it makes any difference
ESX ordered ;)
If it eeks out another 0.5 db ...it'll be worth the investment ..
Quite a few channela are _that_ close to locking on the F15 ..
some already 'lockable' might just be a bit more stable..
We shall see

As it's a satellite forum, shouldn't that be 'decrease your elevation'?

hello Acebes

I'm from Germany, near Bremen (Werder Bremen)
I have exactly the same lnb ordered from america ..
you really can not say that the delivery was slow, in Germany it usually takes much longer ..
I was very surprised that it in 3 days already here at the duty lay ready for pickup ..
ok, that would have the duty must not be, but the German laws are like that .... and just so stupid because the sellers had failed to stick by the statement outside of the box, otherwise I would have the package immediately obtained with the post ..
with the performance of lnb I am also very satisfied ..

maxherwart greeting

Hi maxherwart, the seller is giving delivery times of 3 to 6 weeks so I can only go by what he is saying. As it is being shipped by the USPS I've no idea how it is actually sent, airmail I guess but could be on the slow boat from America? I've requested he mark the customs declaration as a gift so hopefully it wont get caught for import tax and VAT, mind you, it's only £23 in total so wont exactly break the bank if it is.

For anyone else thinking about getting one, I got mine from paxlycom. There is another company selling the same item but the only relevant feedback he had questioned the amount of packing he used to ship it. So now we wait and get on with refurbing the actuator, freeing up the actuator mount on the PM, knock a couple of small dents out from the dish, prepare some LNB brackets and work out how I'm to adapt the ground mount seeing as someone has helpfully welded the mount to the post!
