There are about 12 Russian channels in C-Band on Express AM1 at 40 east, all FTA.

My question is how can I (or is it possible to) get these channels ?

At C-Band there are four dedicated Russian channels, with a 2 hour shift duplicate channel

If you can receive the signal from your location, you would need a good 1.5m or a 2m dish with a C-Band LNB and polarised feed. Signals abover the UK are in the region of 38/39 dB

Thanks CH, think a 2 metre dish hanging off my bunglow will tilt the place over, looks like I'll have to give it a miss, thanks anyway.

Has Russian Kanal 1 been scrambled on Hotbird now? Maybe it's just a bad hair day for our dish...

As you say just a bad hair day for your dish (or receiver) as it is still FTA.:)

If you can get BBC World or ORT (Channel 1) then you can get Planeta Sport

Are you sure its not elsewhere in the list of channels you already have ?

Rob, Rolfw, Gargleb, CH and the others.

Thank you so much for your contributions in his thread. I have been looking for information on where and how to get and watch "Ruskie kannaly" but was not able to get a bit untill when I started searching through this forum. Guys like u are actually what makes the Internet full of wonders. My problem is that I am a new bie. Therefore please dont get mad with me if I my question appear stupid. Can I watch Russian Tv channels in Nigeria. Any information on what I should do to get the channels would be highly appreciated. But, please try and explain every thing in details so that it would not be difficult for me. I have an S model X receiver with 2.4m fixed dish and 0.3dB LNBF.
Many might wonder what a guy like me in Africa would do with a Russian TV. Well, the answer is ;I have lived and studied in Russia for Nine years and I just cant stay without getting news from Russia.

Any help towards realizing this dream would be appreciated in advance.

Thanks

Muktar

Perhaps a good starting place here would be for you to tell us what satellites you can receive, as we obviously cannot see all the ones you can and visa versa. Alternativley have a look here for information about Russian FTA channels and which satellites carry them, hope this helps

Hi Toppervte33h,

Thanks alot for that information. It was valuable. I have seen all the possible FTA channels obtainable from Russia through that link. Most of these channels can be tuned on to on Express AM2 (80E), Express 22 (53E), Express 11 (96.5E) or Yamal 201 (90E). But my problem is that, I dont know if signals from these satellites can be availlable in my place. I browsed through some sites to understand the footprints of these satellites but all seem not to cover Africa well. I also understand that the less the dbW, the bigger the diameter of the dish. Pls can u help me know if I can still get some signals from these sats?

Thanks again.

80, 90 & 96E are below the horizon for Niger, so no chance of you getting them.

Am22 at 53 E is above the horizon, but the Russian channels are broadcasting to Europe not Africa, so will also be unavailable to you.:D

Hi Analoguesat,

I just dont want to believe that. Cause there was a time when a friend's motorised system got hooked on Pervyi kanal. Its just that it was quite some time now and the guy has since dismantled his set. I will try and if successfull, I would feed you back.
