Hi everyone,

So I'll explain, I've had my motorised dish up for about 2 months now and up until last night whenever I've moved it, it's been relatively light outside. Last night I moved my dish to various satellites to pick up some feeds of the MTV EMAs and with the clocks going back an hour, it got dark pretty quickly. I noticed that whenever the dish moved more than about 10 degrees, one of my neighbours garden lights would turn itself on and then go off about 5 minutes after. At first I didn't think it was the dish until I deliberately moved it again to see and boom, the light went on.

Now it looks like they have a sensor system that triggers the light to come on when movement is detected (or sound?) and to be honest, I'm not quite sure what to do! Do I mention it to them and assure them that they haven't got a poltergeist? or do I keep quiet and hope that they don't figure out its the dish causing it?

What would you guys do in this situation? :D

Well as it's in their garden I'd not go out of my to say anything unless they bring it to your attention. After all, the motion sensors are just doing their job.

Assumin the dish is entirely within your garden - you should be berating them for watching your property...
Or, seen from the other angle - thank them for also keeping a vigil for you, and share with them the effeciency of their electronic countermeasures against thieves.

...or just ignore it, and blame the cat as AS says :)

If you had neighbours like mine you would sit up all night moving it back and forth.

I'm surprised a dish would trigger the sensors, aren't they usually looking for heat? Wouldn't it mean the leaves swaying in the wind would also trigger them?

With motion triger devices, you neet to be in the reception angel or line.
Once you cross this it comes on. (I am sure that you all know this).

I fooled a friend's burglur alarm by moving under the snsor, so it could not sense me.
He then repossitioned it to cover the blind spot.

Your neighbours can re-allign the sensor to save the electric bill.
