cheers T

dishpointer is great give me a rough idea where to point but does not help with the compass

ok - worked out south 180 on the compass after lining up north etc.
Do I move the arm toward 152ish on the compass (moving approx 28) is this 28E (moving from south 180 on compass)

this is where I am going wrong cant figure out where the direction 28E should be.

Or do I move towards 118E (moving approx 28) is this 28E (moving from East 90 on compass).

This is what is bugging us how do you work this out manually without the aid of the dishpointer.

any help on this will be great

There's no need to invest in the inverto multiconnect 23mm neck LNB's unless your going for some really tight spacing, with the rail system we use we managed 3 Degree spacing without the need for sand holders down let along slim neck LNB's, & that was on a one meter up here in central Scotland. You should be able to get as close as 2 degrees apart wtih that dish & in your location.

main option for lnbs is the smarts ts golds - I guess with them we wil get 3 degrees, but just wondered for 2/3 quid more, if i got the slim necks would that allow me to put 5 on the rail metal holder and pick from more sats.

only want to get this job done once so thought, if i can the maxc on in one hit - i wont need to go back up the ladder.

hope this make sense

cheers v

Use Satsig ....................... _http://www.satsig.net/ssazelm.htm

or Satlex ..................... _http://www.satlex.de/en/azel_calc-params.html?satlo=28.5&user_satlo=&user_satlo_dir=

Using a compass is, IMHO, a waste of time as they are never accurate when used close to masonry, metalwork etc. If you must use one, then remember how rough it is.

Dishpointer will give you line of sight referenced to your precise location, so I don't understand why you can't rely on that - It'll be more accurate as a starting point for final alignment than a compass will be.

28E means 28 degrees East of South ...... which if you were located on the Greenwich Meridian (which you aren't) you might think would give you a compas bearing of 180-28=152 deg. But it isn't that easy ! There are all sorts of spatial, geomagnetic and other variables to take into account. Another reason, therefore, not to rely upon a compass, but to get a rough line of sight from Dishpointer then complete the alignment by experiment.

I'd go for the Inverto Black Ultras, slim, long neck & the best sensitivity of any LNB at the same price point & more. I think the rail length will be your sticking point if there is one.

cheers for this

have you got a linky for one as 4 of them one the manufactuer site including the slim 23mm

which multi holder did you use or recommend as a universal choice - I am used to the metal version as per first link.

These metal versions I know about for the wave setups.

any linky on suitable holders will be great.

cheers
ps dish going up during the week/weekedend

One thing to keep in mind is those Inverto MultiConnect (23mm feed) LNBs are pretty awful when they get wet. I'm OK with one of my setups as it is on a covered balcony so hardly gets wet but I recently used them on a 90cm dish in Buckinghamshire looking at 1W and 5E and every time it rains I have to go out and wipe the LNB cover to get a signal back or wait a few hours after the rain for them to dry. It just takes a couple of small water drops on that 23mm cover and the signal really drops badly. They may not be so bad on higher power signals like 19E and 28E but they aren't so good for weaker ones.

On the other hand those Inverto Black Ultra LNBs really pull in a good strong signal. Well worth it.

Already noted this and the issues the 23mm could cause.

Made my mind up that, its got to be a better quality lnb.
