its interesting reading this, I have a channel master 1.2m offset dish in the shed and wonder if I would receive anything in cband if i got a suitable lnb for it ?

Hi Wod ..
The whole point of my 'TD110 C-Band LNB Adapter' thread was to prove that C band on a dish around 1mtre wasn't do-able ..was indeed an urban myth..

Have you read it ?

Picked up quite a handfull of channels on the western arc ...using an lnb offset to the focus by at least 6 degrees..

So ..the simple answer is Yes ....a 1.2 _will_ get results ..

Better weather yesterday meant I could get outside again to fine tune the dish and set the limits on the positioner. First off, I've found 17 transponders on 55.5W, these are linear so I've removed the plate but compared to the list at Lyngsat the polarities are the wrong way round. The LNB, an ESX241 was set to 0 skew at due south (it's stamped on the back of the LN:cool: so I kinda assumed it was correct but now it suggests I'm 90° out? It's not a show stopper as I build my own lists from blindscanning but will have to remember if I'm importing anything.

2.8E, I've got a strong promo channel for Eutelsat named 'Tadiran Scopus' 3760R 5787 3/4. Incidentally, if you do tune it in listen from about half way through, there appears to be breakthrough from an SSB transmission, strange! Curiously, when I was in the garden setting it up I was also getting 4102R but since bringing it all in doors I can't get a sniff of it even though it shows quite well on the spectrum.

I've not had any luck further east so far, looks like my only targets will be 10, 20 and possibly 30°, 40E is inclined and can't do that at the moment, 49 is obscured by trees. Not sure what remains to the west, 43?, anything else further west than 55 I might aim for?

Funnily enough VS I must have been scanning 58W while you were typing, I'm trying to fit it in amongst doing some gardening lol I can only decode the NHK transponder but can see quite a few others on the speccy, just not quite enough to get them. One more find from this morning is a transponder on 34.5W, again found my running the speccy and best guessing the position and then fine tuning any bumps I can see :-righton

Cheers for the tip Huevos, I thought that might be the case but I've not seen it like that before. Guess I'll have to rotate it and rescan everything.

On 34.5ºW there is Tele Greenland, 4067L 2915 7/8 FTA. Pretty easy catch.

On 58ºW my lockable transponders are:
  • 3720H
  • 3880H
  • 3924V
  • 4040H
  • 4120V
  • 4147V

And I just checked DBEdit and I've got 30 lockable transponders on an FTA scan of 55ºW.

Hi friends ..
Just done a blind scan of Rascom 2.8E

Curiously the feed/promo found by Aceb earlier appears in both H & V ...ie Left and right circular ..

Also another LJB active feed at 4085R sr2667 ..

hi aceb -

did you have any luck at 1 west ? .
just to satisfy my curiosity i put one of my C band l.n.b,s onto the 1.2 channel master today, as i have recieved the b.b.c transponder in the past on both 1.0 and 1.2 metre dishes - at 1 west not now though , it must have weakened , i did however pick up a weak but watchable picture from 4180 L ERTU channels .:)

had a look at 30 and 40 east and got a few channels from each of those -with the 1.2 , so you should do ok there - the incline on 40 East is so slight it makes no difference to the signal

cheers nelson.b.

I noticed that as well VS although one way is a lot weaker than the other, when I checked it without the plate in it was very strong in H but not there vertically so I assume it must be linear, would that account for the signal on L and R?

I've not been able to pull anymore from 34.5, 55 or 58W, not sure how much the weather and time of day effects C band but it's been raining and low cloud/overcast all day. Not checked Ertu yet, will try again in the morning. Can anyone confirm that STV1 and 2 are still there on 3637R, lost them earlier when I was moving the LNB and can't get them now no matter how much I try yet everything else still seems as strong.

You are quite right Paul ..
Moved the dish back to 2.8 East this morning and pulled the plate ...
Horizontal only now at my location ...so one can only assume this demo is being broadcast on a Linear Horizontal transponder.

An odd combo to have both circular and Linear on the same sat ...but I'm guessing it wouldn't make any difference to intended targets with a circular reception dish setup ..due to the signal strength (well over 10db)

What I find odd is that the actual satellite was constructed to provide both Linear and circular (Cband) within the same footprint

...Another explanation that has just occurred to me is that the demo loop is _not_ from Rascom ..

but maybe from Chinasat ...which is currently located 0.2 degrees away from 2.8 @ 3.0 East ..
This might make more sense ...regarding the H/V & Circular confusion ..

Any thoughts ?

..I'm even more convinced that my theory re Chinasat may well be correct ...now that I've referred to the old Chinasat C band transponder payload list :-

Here are the first few in the list ..
Notice the first one ..is almost exactly as Aceb found it ..

When I was writing my post about the promo I was going to add something about it being odd that a Eutelsat promo would be airing on Rascom, I had a quick look to see if there was a connection, couldn't find one but assumed one owned the other or Rascom was just a broadcaster name, next time I'll go with my hunch lol

Just plugged in the spectrum and swung the dish across 3ºE and that transponder does seem to rise and fall slightly out of sync with those on Rascom. Pretty strong too. I think I could probably receive it on a 90cm dish.
